Topic: UFXIII- Issue changing sample rate on Youtube/UFXIII Display freezes

Hey everyone,

I've been having trouble with my new UFXIII that I bought from Thomann last month. I've encountered two issues and haven't been able to solve them.

Issue 1: When I play audio at a 96K sample rate and try to change to different sample rate on YouTube, I hear a constant strange sound (like a high-pitched beep). After this all playback meters show incoming signals of the same constant beep sound then UFXIII display freezes and doesn't update. The only solution is to reset the UFXIII to its default settings.

I used to have a Babyface Pro FS and didn't experience this issue when changing sample rate while playing youtube (I know
they use different drivers)

To keep this short, I've already checked my PC:

1.Latencymon shows everything is fine for audio.
2.MSI utility is set to high priority for nvlddmkm.sys.
3.BIOS settings and windows maxium PC performance are enabled (according to ramses information).
4.USB diagnosis shows NO errors for USB2 & USB3 when this happens (kept the madiface settings open for test purpose)
5.RME drivers and flash updated (Driver date: 03.05.24, Driver version:0.9840, Hardware revision:20

My PC specs:
DELL Precision M4700 (old PC - didn't have any issues with Babyface Pro FS)
Intel Core i7-3720QM CPU @ 2.60GHz
32 GB RAM
Windows 10 Pro (clean install)

I am also testing with a different and newer Pc (intel)

Issue 2: I'll create a separate post for this to avoid confusion.

Thanks.

Was ASIO running in the background? How exactly did you attempt to change the sample rate - Via RME Settings dialog or Windows?

In genersal it is a bad idea to change the WDM sample rate while WDM is in use - that causes havoc. You better stop YouTube - the whole browser, change the sample rate, start browser/YT again.

Hi MC

1. ASIO is running (also disable all other sound devices in device manager/only UFXIII enabled).
2. Changed sample rate via RME Settings dialog
3. I understand is bad to change on the fly but I just changed it for test purpose. After change different sample rate it causes the totalmix go crazy. Strange static noise on ALL PLAYBACK channels and ALL Hardware outputs=noise signal are visible via Totlamix metering)

Other issues I notice are:

4.Sometimes i get random errors such as using USB 2 the USB Diagnosis showed: - I 1 I -
whatever error number is is no good according to manual.

5.Sometimes when I connect the UFXIII cable I receive a windows notification:
''USB device not recognized : The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.''

6.Sometimes UFXIII detects USB3 as USB2 in a USB3 port.

I will be running the same test in another PC to see if it behaves the same.

Thanks MC

Re: UFXIII- Issue changing sample rate on Youtube/UFXIII Display freezes

Your computer is pretty old, more than 10 years.... It might have been top model that time, but todays' notebooks may have 6-8 times more CPU power....

Babyface might run fine as there was not that much stress on USB as it has a fraction of channels comparing to UFX III.

Have you tried different USB sockets on your notebook? Some may work better, others may work worse.

And what about drivers for USB chips and/or Intel chipset. Are they updated?

Re: UFXIII- Issue changing sample rate on Youtube/UFXIII Display freezes

Hi Kubrak

I don't think its the PC being old since it runs everything fine in REAPER and Protools. Issue only on youtube. Task manager and latencymon shows no problem.

Have you tried different USB sockets on your notebook? Some may work better, others may work worse. Yes but everything has a reason. I don't usually do test and stick for what works or not. I already check on device manager which USB port to connect direct to chipset.

And what about drivers for USB chips and/or Intel chipset. Are they updated? yes

As I stated in the previous email I recently got USB errors in the USB diagnosis that shouldn't happen. So something is wrong for sure. Also the noise is visible on the totalmix metering in ALL PLAYBACK channels and ALL Hardware outputs.

Like I said before I will be doing some tests in another recent PC to see if it behaves the same.

Thank you
Regards

LatencyMon should show something if you run into USB errors. Have you run it while running YT? If problems occure only on YT.

Small correction, maybe typo?

USB transport errors you see by keeping driver settings window open and to watch for CRC errors.

LatencyMon shows DPC Latencies if cores are blocked too long for bad drivers.
If audio related processes are scheduled for such a core and need to wait for too long for processing,
then audio drops can happen, especially when using small ASIO or application buffer sizes.

Re: UFXIII- Issue changing sample rate on Youtube/UFXIII Display freezes

OK, I thought that USB errors displayed in RME driver may also be influenced by latencies....

But when I think about it deeper, you are right and CRC error is different story than buffer underrun.
