My ADI-2 DAC doesn't work with Jriver MC32 media player. It did fine with a previous version of that player, MC24. I have not upgraded my ADI-2 DAC software for years. I am afraid to update it, fearing that it stops working with the previous version of my player as well. I use Macbook Pro Big Sur, 11.6, 13" Retina, 2015 early. Please comment.
May you tell more details what is not working ?
Is it not working at some specific sample rate ?
Is the music distorted or stuttering or nothing play at all ?

It is stuttering. Very short impulses are heard. At any sample rate.
And over the MacBook speakers it plays fine ?
If there is a firmware upgrade for the DAC available I would do it.
Yes, it plays fine over internal speakers of Macbook. Yes, there is a software update available on RME site for my device. I'll do it. Thanks a lot for your support.

Firmware update isn‘t a one way ticket like with most Apple stuff.
You can go back to the old one if you have the file.
Take a note which version currently is installed before updating.
Please instruct where to find info on the old version of ADI-2 DAC which I have installed.
You have to run a FUT it will let you know whats in and whats possible to update.
You see your current FW version number when ADI-2 starts.

Watch out for the “DAC“ number, like “DAC 17” (which goes back to 2018) etc.
I found the cause of malfunction. My ADI-2 DAC does not accept certain settings in the new version of Jriver Media Player, which it did accept, the same settings, in the old version! Namely: when both "exclusive access" and "integer mode" boxes are checked, there is a problem (stuttering sound) in the new version of Jriver, while all is fine with this setting in the old version. Interestingly, when either box is checked alone, the playback in the new version is fine. Please comment any suggestions. Is it worthwhile to use both exclusive access and integer mode, would that improve sound quality?
Most probably Jriver will fix that in an update.
I don't think a digital audio player can improve sound quality in any way.

That’s simple, use RME Bit Test.
Read manual page 67.
If it passes in any setting, there‘s nothing more to improve.
