Topic: [Fireface UC] Audio pitched and fastened

Hi,

I recently reinstalled windows 10 and also any necessary drivers, including my RME Fireface UC + TotalMix FX.
When playing music (Spotify, YouTube,...) the audio is pitched up and faster than usual. When I switch to my on-board soundcard (Realtek HD) the audio is just fine. It only happens when I switch back to my RME Fireface UC interface.
What I've tried so far is reinstalling both the audio driver and TotalMix. Flash update (fut_usb_win) didn't work either..
The driver version is the latest, v1.250 from April 2024.

It worked fine before so I am wondering what caused this issue and how do I fix this?
If theres more information you need to know about let me know.

Best regards, Tomas

Hi
What you describe normally happens, when audio files are played back on hardware with a mismatched sample rate. So I suggest to go thru all places on your system where a sample rate can be selected and check the settings. How are the clock settings for your Fireface UC? Do you have an external unit (on SPDIF or ADAT) set as master clock?

Re: [Fireface UC] Audio pitched and fastened

Yea I read about the sample rate thing but only could find my windows settings to be 44.1khz.

So do I need to match the systems sample rate to the freface one or vice versa?
I am quite a noob when it comes to audio settings so I dont know what a master clock is or how to set one, sorry.

EDIT 1: I happen to have only 44.1khz as an option, 16bit and 24bit. I am not able to change the sample rate to a higher or lower value.

Re: [Fireface UC] Audio pitched and fastened

Using digital audio devices, they have to be synced to properly exchange the audio data. Because not every clock generator has the exact same speed (e.g. one is on 44'109 and the other on 44'096), there could be clicks and pops hearable when they aren’t synced to each other. For this, one clock has to be the 'master' and sends its 'beat' to all the other invloved units which are 'slaves' - they don’t use the internal generator anymore but take the clock from the 'master' unit (sadly 'master' and 'slave' are the common terms - I don’t like it). So now all the units with their AD or DA converters are in sync.
If you have an interface locked to e.g. an external AD converter on 48kHz over SPDIF and you play some audio files which have a sample rate of 44.1kHz, they would sound exactly like what you described because the samples are converted too fast. In RME Fireface Settings, what settings do you have there regarding word clock / sample rate?

Re: [Fireface UC] Audio pitched and fastened

in RME settings I changed the sample rate to 48000 and it works just fine now.. Don't know why it is not in common with windows.
Thanks for your help!
