Topic: Inquiry About UFX III Headphone Amplifier

Hello,

I have been using many RME products with great satisfaction over the years. I purchased the UFX2 as my main interface in early 2019, and it has been working excellently alongside my Digiface Dante, Babyface Pro FS, and ADI 2/4 Pro SE. As I need another audio interface, I noticed that the UFX3 is now the flagship model.

Upon reviewing the detailed specifications, it seems that the converter and headphone amplifier specs of the UFX2 and UFX3 are identical. However, I have seen a review from a well-known studio stating that the converter in the UFX3 is much improved, which has left me somewhat confused.

I would like to confirm: is the sound of the UFX3's headphone amplifier the same as that of the UFX2's? Has the UFX3's headphone amplifier been upgraded compared to the UFX2, which was released around 2016? Or have there been any changes to the headphone amplifiers in both the UFX2 and UFX3 since 2016 - UFX2's initial release?

(To be honest, while I am very satisfied with the other features, I found the headphone amplifier performance of the UFX2 quite lacking. This is purely my subjective opinion, but it seemed inferior even to that of the Babyface Pro FS. Because of this, I purchased the ADI 2/4 Pro SE specifically for its excellent converter, and I am very pleased with its performance.)

Thank you for all that,

Re: Inquiry About UFX III Headphone Amplifier

I picked up a UFX II in the last week or so, and its headphone amps are berserk! Easily the best headphone amps I've ever heard, that's for sure.

I understand that they're now the same ones found in the UFX III. MADI and USB 3 are the only essential differences between the units.

Re: Inquiry About UFX III Headphone Amplifier

UFX III got a new digital and analog section with the AKM converters of the well known ADI-2 Pro FS reference converter.

Later versions of UFX II also got the new digital and analog board of the UFX III, so that both products are now again the same except for USB3/MADI.
