Topic: Suddenly Fireface usb settings sees Digiface, OS x does not.

I have a USB digiface and an ARC usb. Till yesterday, everything was recognized by Mac os x sonoma and by Totalmix. Since firing up my macbook this morning -> Fireface usb settings sees the digiface. Totalmix windows are _empty_. Not even the ARC usb is seen. Not in logic, not in AUDIO-MIDI settings of Mac os x. Nowhere. Reinstalled driver several times, unplugged en replugged usb cables. Switched cables. Nothing seems to work. Why would Fireface USB settings see the Digiface and not _any_ of the DAW's nor the OS?

Tips are very welcome.

Regards,

Theun

In the system report, USB and thunderbolt ports, is the Digiface showing up there ?
Is Totalmix enabled in the Microphone access in the MacOS system preferences security&privacy ?

What RME driver version do you have on your Mac?

UCX - FF 400 - Babyface pro - Digiface USB - ADI-2 (original)
Mac mini M1 - Macbook pro - iPad Air2

Re: Suddenly Fireface usb settings sees Digiface, OS x does not.

Most likely issue here is that you installed some other driver or app update that caused the Mac security system to block the RME driver again. Reinstall the driver and make sure to follow the guide here to approve the app & driver on your system.

Yes, it is showing up there. And yes, totalmix has not asked for permission and I see no way to grant it,

Mine is an Intel Macbook, not a M1. And I have reinstalled the driver 2 x times. To no avail.... Not shure what to do next.

Re: Suddenly Fireface usb settings sees Digiface, OS x does not.

And remember, this all worked fine a couple of days ago. All I changed to my setup was adding a 19" blind plate to my rack with adat expanders in it with power sockets with individual on/off switches. And plugging all power cords back into it.

Re: Suddenly Fireface usb settings sees Digiface, OS x does not.

The blind plate can block heat dissipation and over night it gets too hot.

I mounted the power adaptors on the outside and the blind plate is at the back. Plenty of open space for ventilation. And the Digifce is bus powered. so it has no power supply of it's own.

I plugged the Digiface in to my Imac -> instantly recognized. Back in to Macbook -> nothing.....

It’s under Settings > Privacy and Security > Microphone, but it doesn’t seem like it’s required. I don’t have TotalMix showing there and everything works fine.

Perhaps a PR reset is in order on the Macbook? Or even an SMC reset?

Re: Suddenly Fireface usb settings sees Digiface, OS x does not.

Ok, so I was getting nowhere. I had recently installed Mac os on an external SSD disk. After installation I used the option to put back a fully working and installed system through putting back a Timemachine backup. As I was getting nowhere, I decided to boot once more from the old internal disk. Then everything worked again. So I figured something must have been left out from the Timemachine backup. Or a permission thing. As I was still configuring and installing software and trying to get the new install working, I felt a completely new installation and installing everything fresh instead of putting back from a Timemachine backup was the quickest way. So that's what I did. No everything works fine. Except for.... Well, that is for a different post on this forum wink

Thanks all for thinking along with me!
