Topic: Combined PEQ and Dynamic Loudness - are they "additive" (ADI-2 PRO FS)

Hi all, I've searched to see if this had been discussed before and can't seem to find anything. I've also read the manual and it doesn't appear to answer my question.

For a single digital S/PDIF source at less than 192kHz PCM and after applying a PEQ setting (in this case analogue out 1/2 feeding a power amp with three EQ notches to reduce room nodes), does Dynamic Loudness over-ride this EQ or do the two add together to give a "complex" or "additive" output?

Assuming there is enough headroom, I would expect the two to be combined, but it doesn't state this is in the manual. The Dynamic Loudness feature is useful for low level listening, but I would also like to take out the room nodes which are active regardless of the volume I'm listening at.

PEQ and Loudness are fully independent functions, like all other DSP functionality.

It‘s not mentioned in the manual because nothing overrides or excludes the other, all DSP functions add up.

Headroom is 24 dB, enough for all real world situations.

You can hear that too. Activate Dyn Loudness with a high boost and then add bass and treble using B/T and PEQ, you should be able to hear more bass and treble easily. With the ADI-2 Remote control software, operation is very easy and support such tests.

Thanks ramses! I did try it and could easily hear a difference when using quite coarse EQ and Bass and Treble with and without Dynamic Loudness, but I was less confident when switching the room-mode PEQ cancelling modes in and out when Dynamic Loudness was switched on.

I can definitely hear the benefits of the room-mode reducing PEQ with Dynamic Loudness off, but then I felt that the room mode reduction was less effective with the Dynamic Loudness on. I don't think this is surprising given more energy is being put into the room at low frequencies, but I wanted to check that the fairly high-Q notches were not being disabled.
