Topic: Babyface Pro FS Hiss Noise Test

Hello guys! smile

First of all, I'm a total beginner in vocal recording.
I'm trying to figure out if the amount of hiss noise from the Babyface Pro FS at 60 dB preamp gain without a mic connected is normal.

Re: Babyface Pro FS Hiss Noise Test

Something needs to be connected, otherwise the input is in a kind of "undefined" state.

+1. But beside this, the hiss amount on your unit seems absolutely normal.

UCX - FF 400 - Babyface pro - Digiface USB - ADI-2 (original)
Mac mini M1 - Macbook pro - iPad Air2

Thank you very much for your responses. @ramses @oli77sch

Knowing that this amount of hiss noise is normal is reassuring.
My dynamic microphone needs at least 60dB gain to produce a good signal, and the noise from the preamp at 60dB gain is quite noticeable in the vocals and gets further amplified during the mixing process.

I will probably switch to a Shure KSM32 (needs only 20-30 dB Gain)
