Thanks for the confirmation. In the end cause and fix were both fully logical. The fix prevents the DAC chip from misbehaving with these special signals - no other spec or feature is affected by it, so it's a perfect solution.

Thanks for the research, MC. It appears that the sine sweep tone signals triggered DSD detection over the PCM of the ESS DAC chip. It’s not that I’m particularly versed in all the intricacies of their work, but it seems like this is a bug on their part. In any case, I don’t work with DSD in any form, and I’m glad that it was disabled.
