Topic: URGENT: 12Mic-D not being served IP address, going into link local

An urgent one this, as I have an orchestral recording tomorrow.

I have a 12Mic-D, firmware 1.2.1, Dante Version 4.2.5.6.

It is connected to a Cisco 350 Series switch which is the network's DHCP server, subnet is 192.168.2.XXX. My two other (non-Dante) 12Mic devices are being served IP addresses fine, they are present on the network.

The 12Mic-D will not see the DHCP server, and is going into Link Local. I have updated the device firmware. I can't see any way of flashing the Dante software.

I don't think I've changed anything since I last used the device. Any advice VERY gratefully received. Let me know if you need any more info.

UPDATE I've used Dante Controller to assign a static IP, but I don't know if there will be any unintended side-effects to this.

Reboot of network switch usually readdresses all members...?

Regarding DHCP and static IPs. Check that there is no overlap between DHCP-pool configured on the Cisco switch and the IP address that you assigned statically. Not that the DHCP assigns erraneously your IP for the next DHCP client.

You could leave a few IPs for static IPs from the network 192.168.2.0/24.

To put an example, you could configure it like this:
- 192.168.2.1 - 63 for static IPs and
- 192.168.2.64 - 254 for the DHCP-pool

If you have to set device to static IP, it is good to place sticker with IP adress set on the device. For two reasons. You will know, it has static IP, and you will know which one.

Othervise, one may forget and use it in the way he ends up having IP conflicts...

Re: URGENT: 12Mic-D not being served IP address, going into link local

Thank you all. Seems to be working fine so far. I have excluded its static IP address from the DHCP server list, so hopefully that will avoid that particular problem.

Rebooting everything in correct order, changing all cabling, swapping the switch: nothing seemed to fix the DHCP problem.
