Topic: line in synth

Hi there,

First time caller...

I am very interested in adding some RME to my setup.

Is there much of a noticeable difference between with the converters with the UC, UCX & UCXii?  I'd like to try an RME with my synths using the line in.  I have read the preamps have changed between the devices but I'm not sure about the converters.

Thanks!
Jam

Re: line in synth

Converter of the UCX II are much faster, and the UCX II got some interesting features from the flagship interface UFX II.

It's the latest design … and in contrast to the UC, the UCX and UCX II have a full implementation of the FX chip on board.

With the UCX II you also have support for Room EQ and Crossfeed.

Thanks ramses!

I also realize I left out an important part - I will be connecting the RME via ADAT to my current rig.

Is that a statement or a question? Or a quiz, I'll guess what you wanted to ask ;-)

I would says nearly all RME recording interfaces have ADAT I/O.
I thought this is clear as you could see it from product information.
So I assumed you have a question related to integrating external equipment through ADAT.
Most people have a question regarding that, clock synch, number of channels, ...

Re: line in synth

No, just about the converter's themselves thanks.  Trying to decide if I should get a new UCX or an old used UC if I'm just using the line inputs via adat.

Re: line in synth

Both. If the UC is available for a good price, take it, it's good to have a backup device.

@JamJuice

UC vs. UCX. UC does not have effect section, while UCX has it (and of course also UCX II). I find FX handy. One needs a bit of filterring or noisegate, compressor.

And, I am not sure, but it seems to me that UC does not allow to store several snapshots for standalone use, it just remembers the last used. But check it, if important for you as I have used UC just for a short time and replaced it by UCX. So, I may remember wrongly.

Re: line in synth

UCX II has the best feature set. Esp. DURec can be very useful for stand-alone or backup recordings.
With DURec you can use the device like a recorder.
Also the possibility for operation at the display in stand-alone mode.
And that you can prepare 6 different profiles with different routings or settings for DURec.

Kubrak is right, UC: no fx and regarding stand-alone operation: remembers only the last settings.

How exactly is this meant? Do you want to use the RME only as an AD converter and not as interface for the computer? In this case a 'real' standalone converter such as RME ADI-8, Ferrofish Pulse, Black Lion Revolution EXP or similar would probably be the better choice.
