Topic: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Hello, I just purchased a (non FS) Fireface 802 and I've got some issues and questions. First of all, how do I connect my studio monitors (Focal CMS 5) Currently I have Mogami Gold 1/4th" to XLR connected to outputs 1 and 2 and going to my speakers. I do not understand how to configure this in Mac OS or Ableton Live. I also think there may be a problem with the driver, because when I try to instal the newest driver, it says it can't because my version of Mac OS is too new. I'm currently running Ventura 13.2.1

Another issue that I'm having is that Total Mix will not open up. I'm very confused by these issues because I'm coming from a Babyface Pro that was rock solid and I never had any issues with it, although it did have dedicated monitor outs.

I'm not sure that I left anything out, but if there are any questions or any other information that I can provide, please let me know and I'll do so to the best of my ability. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and for your help.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

One thing that I did forget to mention is that I'm using a Mac mini M2 Pro.

Thanks-

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

What driver number did you try to install ?
Try the 331. USB driver not FW firewire driver !

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Yes the second time around, I did install 331 which did install Total Mix and the Fireface USB Settings application, but I'm still unable to open Total Mix, I do not see it in Mac OS and I do not see it in Ableton.

Thanks-

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

The Fireface Settings dialog does open ?
The MacOS system report is showing something under thunderbolt ?

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

The Fireface Settings Dialog does Open, shows Firmware Version 20, Driver version 3.31, but I'm using USB so I don't know that system report is showing something under Thunderbolt.

Thanks-

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

The USB-C ports are also thunderbolt.
Look under USB and thunderbolt, as you can open the settings that means a connection does exist and we should find out what the Mac sees.

Edit :
Is your Totalmix the latest version ? 1.95

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Also, for what it's worth, when I attempt to open Total Mix, I go to File, New Window and then I get a pop up asking me if I would like to create a new Mixer Window or a new Matrix Window. Neither of them do anything at all.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Yes total mix is on version 1.95

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

I am not seeing any RME related in system information

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

In the Setting, if you make changes for example change sample rate is this keeping after reopen the settings ?

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Also check in MacOS system preferences / security and privacy / Microphone : is Totalmix listed and enabled ? It should.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Yes it does. I just switched to 44.1, closed the application, reopened and it was still 44.1

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Total Mix is not listed in Microsoft in Security and Privacy. I don't see an option to add it, either. Only Ableton Live shows up.

That's something good. At least.

Did you try a cold reboot of the mac ?
Shut down, wait, reboot.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Just for curiosity I checked sound device input and output and the RME isn't showing up there either.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Yes, I have rebooted several times now.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

The cable is directly connected to the Mac without any hub, right ?
Have you another cable available for a test ?

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

The cable is connected directly to the Mac without a hub. I'll try another cable now.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Ok I've tried another cable and TotalMix still will not open, not is it in the security settings.

And it is not possible to add it manually into this microphone access list ?
I know in earlier MacOS versions this was possible but it has changed.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Yes I do not think it is possible to do that. I don't see any way to do that.

It would be at the bottom of the list, a plus-button to add something.
I think that has changed before Ventura.

Not much left to try...
May be older driver 223

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

I think what I might do is try the Fireface with a totally different computer tomorrow. That should answer a lot of questions. I really appreciate your help with this and will report back tomorrow.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

That's a good idea.
Sorry for not having the right trick.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

This sounds like you did not enable the RME GmbH drivers in Security&Privacy during driver installation. Install 3.31 again and carefully read the dialogs. In that Permission dialog which comes up during install OK is the wrong button. Also before reboot manualy close all windows, some are hidden behind others.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

That’s not even part of the installation process anymore.

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

That S&P setting is even necessary with the latest DriverKit drivers 4.12.

Another hint: I noticed that you did not disclose your Mac hardware type. From the 331 driver readme:

M1/2/3: On M computers (Apple Silicon) third party kernel extensions (like the RME drivers) are globally disabled. To enable them the procedure is as follows...

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

I did post that I’m using an M2 Pro Mac Mini in my second post. I will look in the 331 readme on how to enable the drivers to see if that helps.

Thanks!

Re: [Solved] RME FireFace 802 Issues

Globally enabling the drivers in the recovery mode resolved the issue! Thanks so much for the help everyone!
