What is the current setup (which device is the recording interface, which is clock master)?

You have those devices there and can compare the sound yourself, also the technical specs, whats left / unclear?

I see the advantage in two Pulse 16, that you have the same types of converters in your setup and you would only need two instead of three rack units. The two Pulse 16 can get the clock from the Digiface USB through ADAT.

If you have a desktop PC and if you want more flexibility in terms of I/O, then get the RayDAT. The RayDAT gives you AES, coax. SPDIF, 2x MIDI additionally and an optional WC module, should you require one in the future.

The additional AES port is an advantage for the integration of one of the RME reference converters in the future (ADI-2 Pro FS R BE or ADI-2/4 Pro SE). See my blog, there I wrote about the integration into a setup and about models, use cases,  advantages and features:
