Topic: RoomEQ Import Bug

I'm a UCX II user.
Using the latest driver and firmware.

I used RoomEQ's import function for the first time to try out the SoundID import function.
SoundID exports L and R data separately.
So I selected LEFT in RoomEQ and imported a preset.

But the same content was imported not only to the LEFT but also to the RIGHT.
When I tried importing RIGHT data in that state, the RIGHT data was overwritten on both the LEFT and RIGHT.
In other words, the stereo link cannot be released in RoomEQ.

I first unlinked the channels and split them into mono, then imported the presets for each.
When I then turned the stereo link back on, the problem did not occur.

I would like to unlink the stereo links for the RoomEQ screen only, even for stereo channels.
It seems like there is a problem with the current version, but what do you think?

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

I have just checked this myself and also seeing this behaviour.  (albeit, this is with presets I'd created before the SoundID 5.12 update).

So, as you've mentioned, you have to make the outputs individual mono Mono outs.. ie Not a stereo out, such as you would see if you assigned a pair of Mono outs in the Control Room section menu.

Whilst they're Mono, recall their individual Room EQ setting, only then can you make them a stereo out again.

Hopefully this can be easily addressed.

Actually, I don't think it's as simple as this, as I just tried again and attempted to fool it. ie Trying to just just do the Right, changed the Left and changing the Left, didn't alter the Right.   (when recalling presets in unlinked mode of the RoomEQ window for the stereo pair).    Whereas recalling the Factory neutral settings, worked as expected in both linked and unlinked scenarios. ... then recalling unlinked Left.. affected the Right and vice versa.

***. Also, I just noted on the SoundID support page, that multichannel importing into RME Room EQ, has to be done on individual channels.  ie Not in control room based pairs.  So, I am going to do a new multichannel calibration and see how that goes and then save that into another Workspace and compare.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

Upon further investigation . .. most of the day wasted, I don't think it's an RME issue....
I've been looking through the SoundID export files with a text editor and it is only creating data for Left and Right.
For example, here's what it (Left Right and Centre channels) looks like in a text editor...  (all others look like the Centre... ie nothing).

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

Just an add-on to this...  You'll note that the channel outs for L & R are set to -24.0 when they should be 0.0

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

** Just confirmed by SoundID support.  That the exported settings are not correct.

Not withstanding Engineer_T's original post is also correct... the importing of the channels isn't right, regarding the Link and independent channels

I'll update when I know more.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

The next beta of TM FX 1.96 should address the stereo import issue. Most probably similar to what we did for REW.

Thanks Matthias, though it looks like Sonarworks have a few things to fix on their side.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

Thanks Matt and Matthias.
I very much welcome the addition of the ability to load SoundID profiles.
I look forward to further improvements being made.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

I was also able to find the cause of this problem.
The data that SoundID exports for RoomEQ is always a stereo channel, with L and R being exported with the same values.

So I edited the data exported by SoundID using a text editor and deleted all unnecessary parts.
That is, in the case of the L channel, delete <Room EQ R>.
And for the R channel, the edit is to delete <Room EQ L>.

As Mr.Matt says, this is a problem on the SoundID side.
I will also ask SoundID to improve this.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

I then continued further verification and realized that I had overlooked an elementary fact.

That is, the preset files that RoomEQ exports contain both L and R data, even if the channels are mono.
I assume that SoundID has adapted to this specification.
I felt that I needed the ability to import separate L and R data correctly, like the REW data import feature in the latest beta version of TotalMixFX.

Once the issue is resolved I will be very happy.
Thank you.

Yes, I too was playing around with this yesterday and found that you definitely need to import to mono channels from the SoundID data.
Then you can change the mode back to a stereo channel, in for example, the case where you have Left and Right as a stereo pair, assigned to "Main Out" in control room.

I need to do this in my Atmos setup fader group, because you cannot use "Main out volume" to control a Fader group, if there is no "Main Out" channel assigned.

For example....  say I have Channel 1 & 2 as Main Out.
1. Assign Main Out to None
2. Click the Stereo Button to seperate the channels.
3. Load Room EQ settings for each individually.
4. Click Stereo button again to join them.
5. Assign Main Out to that pair again.
You can then save that Stereo out RoomEQ to a Stereo Preset.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

Thank you for the information.
I actually used the same method initially to import RoomEQ into the stereo channels.

Now I am using the method of editing the RoomEQ Preset file exported by SoundID.

For the L channel:
1. open the Preset file exported by SoundID in a text editor.
2. delete the data from <Room EQ R> to </Room EQ R>.
3. Save the data overwriting the file.

For the R channel, do the opposite of the L channel.

Then import each Preset in the stereo channel's RoomEQ.
Then the L and R channels can keep separate values.

This is very useful because it can be adapted in MainOut as well.
Please give it a try.

Re: RoomEQ Import Bug

Yes, that is great..
After looking at those files in text edit, I did wonder about how that might work.
However, at the same time, I was having an issue with the latest Measure app from Sonarworks not outputting all the channels, when exporting.
(was advised to go back to the previous version of the Measure app, which worked).
Anyway, I had thought about editing the text files, much in the same way you can do with Eucon parameter maps...
I'll definitely give this a shot tomorrow, if not for anything ales, other than to backup and simplify the overall process.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Thank you, Matthias.

I immediately installed the new beta version and tried it out.
The problem I had has been solved completely.
Thanks for the quick improvements.
