Topic: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

Hi all!

Hope you're doing well!

I'm having some trouble with FF802 and Neumann KH 750 speaker and I would like some help.

I'm trying to connect the AES output of the RME Fireface 802 to the digital input of the Neumann KH 750.

For this connection I'm using,
a) a Mogami 110Ohm AES/EBU cable with Neutrik XLR Connectors (https://mogamicable.com/category/bulk/d … e/aes_ebu/)
b) a Neutrik adapter (https://www.neutrik.com/en/product/naditbnc-fx)
c) a 75Ohm BNC cable my Thomann (https://www.thomann.de/gr/pro_snake_bnc … _75ohm.htm)

as explained in the manual. Unfortunately, I don't have any output signal from the speakers.

I have verified that
a) the XLR cable is OK by creating a feedback loop with the RME interface.
b) the Neutrik adapter is completely new. I opened the box today!
c) the BNC cable in a word clock connection did work as expected.

Unless the digital input of the speaker has an issue, I assume that I'm doing something wrong with the connections or any internal settings.

Does anyone have a similar experience or any other insight?

Thanks!

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

Can you pls send a screenshot of RME driver settings?
Maybe you forgot to set the output format from consumer (SPDIF) to professional (AES)?

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

Is the AES output format set to "consumer"?
Does the Neutrik adapter fit directly into the 802?
Try if it makes any difference.
I'm using this one and it works perfectly:

Hey people!

Thanks a lot for the instant response!

My FF settings. AES Output format is set to Professional.

I haven't tried that as the BNC cable is really short, but let me give it a try. As you may see, I'm using the NEUTRIK NADITBNC FX which is the suggested one by Neumann.

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

Looks a bit overcomplicated with all that adapters, why not test with a simple XLR cable from the FF to the Neumann ?

Hey! Thanks for the reply!

I just followed the Neumann instructions.

I don't know how to connect the FF to the sub with a simple XLR cable. The digital input of Neumann requires a BNC connector.

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

Sorry, my bad, that subwoofer indeed has BNC connectors for AES. It should work.
Sure in Totalmix the routing is correct ?

Here's the TotalMix routing. Let me know if you notice anything unusual.

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

The routing looks good, unfortunately we can't see the main out channel signal, it's hidden behind the assign menu.
Is the signal visible ?

Oh you're correct! Sorry about that but yes, it's visible!

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

And you have no sound from the subwoofer ?
Have you connected left and right speakers to the sub ?
There is also no sound ?
I would connect the sub with analog XLR cables to analog outputs of the Fireface, just for a test.

No sound at all!

Yes, left and right speakers are connected and active (Neumann KH 120 A). No sound from them, too.

Analog connections work as expected. I have the trouble only with the digital connection.

PS: I contacted Neumann before posting here but according to my previous experience, their responses are not very fast.

Re: Troubleshooting FF802 to Neumann 750 subwoofer

There are some settings at the back of the sub...

Bass Management : make active
Auto Standby on or off up to you
Control mode : Local
Subwoofer phase : both zero (change during sound for correction if need)
Channel B input mode : Stereo
Subwoofer gain : up to you (change during sound for correction if need)
Low cut : zero (change during sound for correction if need)

Try these settings, also try computer reboot

Thanks a lot for your time! I appreciate you!

I have the settings that you suggested. They are the same since day one because I'm using the MA1 software and microphone for the calibration.

I also tried to factory reset the sub but nothing changed.

I've also done multiple computer reboots!

Unless there's any other idea about the connection or the setup, I should assume the the issue is on the digital input of the sub and I might need to wait for a response by Neumann. Hope it's something that can be easily solved!

You can't use local control if you want to use MA 1 correction. You have to set it to "Network" in this case. Also, check in the MA 1 software that the hardware setup you are using is not set to analog input. Set it either to auto or to digital if you want to use the digital input on the KH 750 DSP.

Yep, you're correct about the network setting! I've tried both positions anyway. No difference! sad

I've also tried to create a new setup and set it to digital input but did not make any difference. The current setup is set to auto if memory serves right.
