Topic: SPDIF and Ableton

How do I set up Ableton Live to direct audio to SPDIF out? In Cubase the alternatives are listed by name. in Ableton I've got warning triangles next to Driver Type and Channel Configuration.

I can get audio out from MME/DirectX
Also I can get audio from the Steinberg built-in ASIO driver, which suggests that the problem lies with configuring the Hammerfall DSP settings. There, I have SPDIF selected under WDM Device Configuration, and I get sound from Cubase when set up that way.

In Ableton select ASIO driver and RME audio device.
Use Totalmix to route the sound from software playback channel to SPDIf hardware output channel.

You make it sound easy... step-by-step please. Is it as simple as clicking at the bottom of the Software Playback panel and changing Analog 1/2 to SPDIF, or do I need to change something in Options?

No, don't.

Click onto the hardware output channel SPDIF (the channel gets highlighted)
Then pull up the fader of the software playback channel (Sound from Ableton).

Thanks. Not quite accurate, but it pointed me in the right direction.

I looked at the Hardware Outputs panel and noticed that all faders were set to 0 already. Then looking at the Software Playback panel I noticed that all faders were set to -inf. Having already clicked on the source label at the bottom of the strip and set SPDIF there, I adjusted the Analog strip's fader to 0, and now have sound!
