Topic: Cable specs for 25 ft cable with Fireface 802?

I recently moved into a new studio and had to move my Fireface 802 farther away from the master PC and now need a 25 ft cable run.

I've tried a few different cable configurations and can't find one that gives me crackle-free connections.  The one I settled on is a 32-ft USB 2.0 active extension (this one: https://www.microcenter.com/product/330 … ot)-black) with the USB cable included with the Fireface.

I tried a couple 25 ft cables but neither worked - they gave constant crackles with constant changes in playback speed.  I also tried a USB 3.0 extender and it wouldn't connect at all.

It seems to me a single cable would be better than a cable+extender but I can't find a cable that works better than the cable+extender config I have.  Plus, the cable+extender is OK but still produces the occasional pop.  I never had that issue with just the stock cable.

Are there certain cable specs I should be looking for to provide a 25 ft run?

25 feet (7,62m) is not long.

You can use the StarTech extension also for USB2.
I am using two of those here for connecting
- UFX III and
- ADI-2 Pro FS R BE
to my PC.

On the StarTech product page they inform in detail, how those extensions can be chained and what to take care of, what the limitations are.

So you can take either
- a  5 m extension cable in combination with 3 m USB2 cable (USB2 cables can be up to 5m long) or

- a 10m extension cable in combination with a 0.5 or 1m  USB2 cable, e.g. those

I made good experience with cables from Lindy, they have a good quality and are not unnecessary expensive.
