Topic: AIO (not Pro) as DAC/output in 5.1 system

Hi,

I am very new to surround sound so this may seem like a stupid question.

I have a AIO (not Pro) card in a PC along with analogue expansion card so I have 6 balanced outputs (and 2 unbalanced if I include the headphones output).

I would like to play 5.1 Blu-ray disks on the PC using a suitable drive and appropriate player software to output the sound to the AIO card, using TotalMix to assign the channels to the 6 analogue outputs.

1) is what I am suggesting actually going to work?

2) if ‘yes’ are there any suggestions of good Windows player software that will let me use the AIO card as I’ve indicated?

Thanks,

David.

Yes
User manual describes surround usage in details.
Totalmix free routing is not mentioned.
You can do a cable loopback trick with a toslink cable Adat out to Adat in for recording 8 Adat channels with the surround audio streams separated, if this is what you want.
