Topic: Mono for headphone outputs?

My apologies if I'm missing something. Does MONO in the Control Room work only for the MAIN outputs and not headphones? I've created a workaround by routing headphones to SPEAKER B collapsed to mono, which makes SPEAKER B effectively a second mono button. I do a lot of mono checking under headphones and would like a proper control for this in a future update if possible, thank you.

Depends, what you mean with "headphones". Anyhow - The Dim-, Recall-, Speaker B-, Mono-, Buttons only affect the assigned Outputs for "Main Out" and "Main Out B" (Dim/Recall only if they are linked) . And this for a good reason...

As you already found out, assigning Speaker B to your switches between the Main Out and Main Out B including the state of the Mono Button.

There are already lot of possibilities for achieving your goal, depends on your workflow.

An example:
Lets say:
- the PH9/10 out is connected to your Headphones for Mono checking
- you want to have them in your Control Room Section
- you want to switch between Mono/Stereo with just one button and without affecting any other channels/faders/etc...
- your incoming stereo signal is visible on Playbacks AN1/2
- you do not want to "waste" any Fader Groups just for this

So:
1) In Control Room click Assign, select "Phones 1", map to PH9/10
2) In Control Room click Assign, select "CUE/PFL to", map to "Phones 1"
3) In Playback row, split Playbacks AN1/2 from Stereo channel into two separated Channels, make sure both Pans are spread (L100 for AN1 and R100 for AN2). Both Faders are set to 0.0 dB Position
4) Select your "Phones 1"/"PH9/10" Submix (it should be highlighted by grey background now)
5) In Playback Row, now make sure both Pans are 0 Position. To avoid overload (because we sum up the signal), set both Faders to -3.0 dB Position.

-> so, now the default for your "Phones 1" or "PH9/10" is a summed mono signal from PB AN1/2, while the others stay on stereo.
-> if you want to switch your "Phones 1" or "PH9/10" to Stereo, just click the green CUE Button in your "Main Out" (or any other Output Sub) and its signal gets routed to your "Phones 1" (because we selected this in 2) )

Re: Mono for headphone outputs?

Thank you maggie33. I've got the basics covered with my Speaker B assignment but will explore some of your suggestions.

You are right, but I agree with Sky that a dedicated Mono button on the Phones outputs would be useful and less cumbersome, as all existing ways to do this feel like a workaround for this very simple functionality.

I mean, there is even 5 different Crossfeed algorithms now on the Phones Outputs, yet no simple Mono switch tongue
Please RME, add this as a simple button!

It's not simple (under the hood and in the code, differently handled for many devices as well), that's why it doesn't exist - yet. And the Crossfeeds needed new firmwares for ALL supported units - a lot of work, again not simple.

Thank you Matthias for joining in. I sure appreciate the recent work your team has done in Totalmix.
