Topic: Fireface 802 flash update utility

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with the Flash update utility for my Fireface 802. The flash tool appears, but nothing happens when I press the update button. I think I've tried every possible combination of update and restart via USB or Firewire. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm using macOS Sonoma 14.5. My Fireface firmware is currently on USB rev12, DSP rev 0, Firewire rev 0, Class-Compliant rev 0.

I don't have access to a Windows machine to do the flash update. Is there some way to get the update button to work?

Any input is much appreciated.

Re: Fireface 802 flash update utility

It needs a working driver.
Is the interface working ? What driver version ?

Re: Fireface 802 flash update utility

Download the latest fut usb from here:
https://rme-audio.de/downloads/fut_usb_mac.zip

Connect it via usb.
Is it recognized in genereal?

Then the flash update should work.

USB rev12, DSP rev 0, Firewire rev 0, Class-Compliant rev 0.

Where did you get these values from exactly?

Thanks for the prompt replies,
I've connected it via USB, and the USB light will show on the front. However, it will not work as an audio interface via USB. It does work with kernel extensions via Firewire.

I got the version revision values from the table in the firmware update utility, which tells you the current and latest versions.

I've already tried the latest firmware update utility that you've linked. When I press the update button, nothing happens. But thanks for the suggestion.

The unit currently works via firewire and kernel extensions. I'd like to get USB working before the next version of macOS, which I'm guessing will no longer support kernel extensions.

The current kernel driver version is 3.41.

Try USB-driver 331

Re: Fireface 802 flash update utility

Thank you very much! That did the trick. The flash update utility worked, and then I was able to update to the latest drivers.

Glad you can work.

To what driver did you update ? The 331 is the latest, right ?

When I installed the 331 drivers, the firmware update utility's 'update' button suddenly worked. So, the unit firmware was updated to the latest. Then, I was able to update to the latest drivers, i.e. 412. For good measure, I was also able to turn off the kernel extensions in the mac security settings. All works fine now.

Again, thanks for the link.

Re: Fireface 802 flash update utility

Ah ok, the 412 driver works also for the Fireface 802, the product page drivers don't include this driver.
The 802FS have it.
Great, you have all up-to-date.
Sonoma 14.6 is out since a few days btw.
