Topic: FIREWIRE 400 windows 10

I brought a fireface 400 after doing extensive research.

I brought the correct pcie card (Startech 3 Port 1394 PCI Express card)

I'm using a 9 pin to 6 pin as that the cable that came with the card. Should I use a 6 pin to 6 pin?

My pc recognises the card as texas instruments 1394 OHCI compliant host controller.

I install all the drivers as directed from rme website, but it fails to recognise the interface

The card just has a red light in host and a orange light on 48v. I've tried rubbing external power and nothing

Can anyone help? I'm loosing my mind.

Got the fireface 400 at a gear price but also could be a reason why it's not working

Re: FIREWIRE 400 windows 10

The Fireface400 has only Firewire400 sockets. Use the FW400 cable.
If you have a working external power supply, use it. And switch to ext.

What exactly is "not recognized"?

Nothing rme based is recognised. I can see the adapter for the card in my device manager but nothing rme appears at all

Yeah I will order one next day and see if that fixes it, thankyou

Re: FIREWIRE 400 windows 10

Try open Fireface Settings dialog, if this opens there you can switch off 48V.
What about Totalmix ? Does it open ?

I downloaded total mix seperatly and that will open, but says disconnected at the top. And I canr even get the fireface settings to open. The pc doesn't even rexonsignise the device. My thinking now is it might be I'm running firewire 800 out of the card adapter into the firewire 400 port?

My Fireface 400 works absolutely well on the FireWire 800 port of my Macbook as well as on a Thunderbolt adapter with FW 800 port on a M1 Mac mini.
As Waedi already has suggested, I also would try an external power supply. Bus power often is not sufficient.

Mac mini M1 - Macbook pro - iPad Air2

Yeah I've tried with bus power, it still doesn't register anything. Stil sits with red host light. Uninstall drivers, reinstall. even if only the adapter is in it still sits in red host light

Re: FIREWIRE 400 windows 10

The red host light just tells there is power from host computer, that is good, it has to stay.

No, it has to turn off during operation. It's an error LED.

There is no separate download for Totalmix, what exactly are you referring to?

Did you install any proprietary drivers for the Firewire card? Have you tried the Windows legacy Firewire driver?
Try a 6-pin cable, if available. And the card in another slot.
