Topic: Babyface Pro FS - No CH1/CH2/Phones output in Standalone mode

Hi,
I am experimenting with using my Babyface Pro FS in standalone mode as a mixer (no IPAD) for the first time. My goal is to send the channel 3 input into channel 1 and 2 xlr outputs (studio monitors). I should mention, I use this as my only audio interface on my Win10 PC, and I generally have no issues with using TotalMix and the like. I am also able to do exactly what i outlined above when my PC is on.

I read the manual, paying particular attention to pages 87-93 which concern standalone mode. I used an independent USB power supply from a powered USB hub. I tried both Class Compliant and PC modes. I followed the instructions to set up the Babyface in Standalone mode to use channel 3 as an input (which was registering input) and send it to channel 1/2 output.

However, I was getting no channel 1/2 output. There was no movement of the meter whatsoever on channel 1/2, even though the meter was moving for the channel 3 input. I was also getting no output on phones. I thought perhaps it had been set to opt, so i switched out of that, but still to no avail.

Once i turned my PC back on and plugged the babyface back in, everything worked as normal again, but I still could not use it as intended in Standalone mode.

Is this a hardware issue I need to service or am I just missing something software related or operational? Attached is a screenshot of my Totalmix window which sees very little change day-to-day.

Re: Babyface Pro FS - No CH1/CH2/Phones output in Standalone mode

First of all : no panorama in standalone.
The input 3 will come out only on output 1 not 2.

Did you perform the routing step by step correctly ?
Using the buttons and the big knob on the unit ?

 Use OUT to select the desired output
 Use IN to select the input with the desired signal source
 Push MIX. The input LEDs start to flash.
 Use SELECT to choose between left, right or both input channels
 Turn the big knob to set the actual monitoring/routing level
 Continue with all inputs and outputs as you wish

You have to perform this on the unit when it is in standalone-mode (power on but no USB connection to a computer).
There is no interaction or exchange of configurations between computer and standalone-device.

Hi thanks for the prompt response. I'm aware there's no panorama in standalone as I saw other threads mention it when I searched on these forums earlier. But I'm not getting any output in channel 3 either.

And yes I performed the routing steps as printed in the manual. Do you have any other clues as to what might be affecting it? The state of total mix when the babyface is plugged into a PC and used as an interface is irrelevant, correct?

Yes correct, Totalmix is out of the game, standalone is an own configuration of routing wich keeps stored in the unit.
You have to go thru those steps again.
One of the steps is not yet correct.

Thanks for your help. I tried it again and it turns out i did not set the actual monitoring/routing level high enough for any audio to pass through from input to output. I assumed the meter i was looking at for that was the INPUT meter, but i guess this is a separate level which is not displayed on the device?

I'm not sure but I think the output level is to hear by ear.
Glad you got it.
