Topic: How to connect RME based setup to Genelec 7.4.1 setup digitally

Hi,

I am struggling to find a good solution.

To my knowledge each AES port can only provide 2 channels.

So to connect the Dolby atmos I would need 6 AES Outputs.

RME UFX III has only 1 out.

RME HDSPe AES PCI Express Interface Would do the job but then I don’t have expansion capabilities for preamps outboard gear etc left.

Lastly I could go UFX III and get the ADI-6432 to convert all madi channel to aes get the breakoutbox.

Just quiet expensive to just have some more aes outs or?

Any input or other suggestions?

I want to build a 7.4.1 setup using 11 genelec 8341 and a 7280 for bass management.


Another solution seems to be the digiface Ravenna and connect to genelec 9401A.

I guess in theory I could later get a UFX III send madi to the digiface Ravenna to convert to network audio and send to the 9401a?

It all seems a bit complicated.

For saving money you can connect all Genelec speakers analog to the UFX lll.
If you want it digital, it gets expensive. The ADI-6432 is a good solution.
That's all in one room and all XLR cables can be less than 15m ? No problem, I would connect everything analog.

MADIface USB or HDSPe MADI FX or UFX II and then 2x Octamic XTC or 2x ADI-642 from the used market.
With the XTCs you would have preamps on board as well.

Looks like I found another relatively reasonably priced option:

RME Ufx III Madi out into Apsys AES3 flexiverter with Madi add in card.

And from there 2 Tascam sub25 to aes breakout cables.

So Madi out channels from ufx3 get converted to 16 aes out channels which are then connected via breakout cables.

Took me forever to research.

Does that work ?

Conversion plus cables should be below 1500 euros.

So UFX iii and conversion for 4000 seems like great bang for the buck compared to some of the other options. And apsys seems not too bad a company if they team up with rme.

RME is already distributor of Apsys and Ferrofish from what I saw

Sorry, but I see no direct connection between RME and Apsys.

Then I rephrase my suggestion, contact Synthax or Appsys.

If that fits your needs channel-wise, then this is a good solution. When connected with MADI you can use sample rates up to 192kHz without losing any AES/EBU channels.

You could also look into 2x Aphex 144 which do ADAT to AES, quite cheap on the used market.
It might only really makes sense if you stick to 44.1/48 kHz though.
