Topic: RME Dante w/Lynx Aurora N Mac Studio - Total Mix/Sound not working

Does anyone have any information on how to set up the Digitface Dante with another Dante sound card, e.g., Lynx Aurora? It seems stupid, but there isn't anything out there on the internet that tells you anything specific. I have a Lynx Aurora N Dante. I just bought the RME Dante Digiface to reduce latency and use RME drivers for my sound card.  It's plugged in via USB, and nothing is working regarding Total mix or the core audio acknowledging it. I had Madi/Digi face so I am familiar with Total mix concepts and RME.   For this price, it should be plug-and-play like the others.

When I have the Digiface  plugged in via USB (no ethernet cable)
-my Mac's core audio won't see it
-Total mix will not open.
-Dante controller will not see it
- The RME USB settings are still adjustable, and the Digiface is recognized.
-My DAW (Bitwig) doesn't see RME Drivers - only core audio and Dante Virtual soundcard

When I have the Digiface  plugged in via USB and ethernet cables plugged into it from the Lynx and the Mac
-my Mac's core audio/sound system won't see it (Perhaps this is normal)
-Total mix will not open.
-Dante controller will see and transmit audio to the Digiface (it seems that because I can't run total mix, I have no way of confirming anything. I can play my tracks as well, but I still can only use the Dante Virtual sound card, which is pretty bad with dropouts and latency (the main reason I spent $1700 on this device)
- The RME USB settings are still adjustable, and the Digiface is recognized.
-My DAW (Bitwig) doesn't see RME Drivers - only core audio and Dante Virtual soundcard

Isn't the whole point of the Dante Digi to run RME as the sound card?
I'd post screen shots but this forum doesn't seem to have that option for some reason??

Hello Chandlertwilson
The MacOS on your computer is Sonoma 14.6.1, right ?
And the driver for the Digiface Dante is the 412, right ?
The firmware of the Digiface Dante is 57, right ?

Please confirm.

Thats normal, you have to select core audio.
Open the Audio-Midi-Setup in MacOS
Is the RME interface listed as audio device ?
It has to show up there with its input and output channels in order to be available in a DAW.

Re: RME Dante w/Lynx Aurora N Mac Studio - Total Mix/Sound not working

I figured it out. I just had to approve RME in the privacy and security manually, as I wasn't prompted, then Total Mix started working just fine and the system saw the Digiface.. All good here. I'm not sure why this https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/AG … ion_EN.pdf isn't in the manual which is how I figured it out after searching the internet for the last couple of days.

This behavior is not reproducible on every Mac because Apple changing the security&privacy system all the time.
Mac users have to learn monitoring there when installing new software.
Glad you can work.

From the DK 4.12 driver's readme:

3. Installation

Double-click on driver_mac_usbdk_412.zip to expand the archive file to the driver file Fireface USB DK 412.pkg. Installation works automatically by a double-click on the pkg (package) file. Users that tried version 4.0 will not see the Allow dialog and button anymore. All others should get that dialog, and before reboot should check that in Security & Privacy, tab General, the RME driver is allowed to load. If not unlock the settings and allow it. Then reboot computer.

We won't take the blame for not reading proper documentation.
