Topic: BabyFace Pro Fs extension.
Hi Gang: excuse my ignorance.
Is it possible to extend the Babyface Pro FS I/O by connecting it to a Digifaceusb with a couple of ADAT cables? If so, how so.
Thanks all over the place.

Hi
I don’t understand what you want to achieve with this? Of course it’s possible to connect this two devices together over optical ADAT cables, but somewhere in your setup you’ll need an analog to digital (AD) converter and / or DA. It would make much more sense to connect such an unit directly to the optical ports of the Babyface proFS.
Hi: Thanks all over the place for your reply.
If I connect the Digifaceusb to the Babyface Pro FS with ADAT cables, what changes to the setup are required to enable access to the added I/O?
Thanks all over the place.
What OS? Can you please put some basic information about your setup into your forum signature? Thanks.
What is the purpose of using DF USB with BF Pro? You will extend ADAT IO of BF Pro from one to three ADATs, but you will still have only 8 channels to BF Pro, anyway. So, this has the meaning only if you need to connect up to three devices using ADAT.
I use DF USB that way. But not with Babyface, I use FF UCX instead.

It's obvious that you need to connect the Babyface Pro FS to the Digiface USB via ADAT, the other way around makes no sense.
I asked for the OS first because with macOS, you could also use aggregate device as an option.
Hi:
I am using an Intel Nuc computer with Windows 11; a Babyface Pro FS; a Digifaceusb and an XTouch.
I am simply trying to increase the I/O for the Babyface Pro FS. What is the best way to do this?
On another point: as a Blind user, I am not able to switch between the Babyface Pro FS and the Digifaceusb intterfaces using Total Mix FX. Apparently, there is a dropdown menu that i can't acces using a screen reader. Is there another way to switch between these interfaces. This is critical for focusing my XTouch on the desired interface.
Sorry for any confusion.
Thanks all over the place.
You may open two instances of TM and switch between them using Alt+Tab.
If you run TM, you may open another instance of TM by Ctrl+N (or File/New Totalmix Window). It opens dialog, in left side you may choose if Matrix or Mixer and in the right side one may choose Device. I do not know if your reader reads the items to select. But they will be in the same order, so if one tells you which interface is first an which second (in your individual case), you could probably set the right one.
But what do you want to use Digiface USB for? I mean in which way? I use it as "switchboard" for digital effects Eventide Eclipse and H8000.
Are you going to use Babyface and Digiface in DAW, or what is your use case?
And I do not know, if you know that Digiface and Babyface use different ASIO drivers, so you get one or another in DAW, but not the both (on Win). (One may use 3rd party driver to mimic them as one interface, but it has disadvantages...)
The best choice might be to get one suitable recording interface with the needed I/O.
But what is the actual demand?

Hi Jim
You have to understand, it is not possible to increase the I/O of an interface.
The input and output channels in Totalmix will not change.
The only thing you can do with Adat connection, you can connect an Adat converter to get some analog connections.
1 Adat connector can turn into 8 analog inputs and outputs.
The BabyfaceProFS has 2 analog outputs and 4 analog inputs
Do you want to use those analog I/O addressing from the Digiface Totalmix ?
Then yes you can connect Toslink cables to them.
The corresponding Adat channels in the Digiface USB Totalmix will send and receive signals.
Is it that what you want ?
You can disconnect the Digiface USB and use the Babyface only for having those I/O.
The setup makes no sense.
Do you have any other audio equipment with Adat connection ?
Btw : Adat connectors are the same for input and output, a toslink optical cable has two identical connectors.
The Adat output port has a red LED light inside and the ports have different colors, grey a nd black mostly.
The setup makes no sense.
Waedi, it depends....
OP may connect up to three SPDIF sources/outputs. Or something similar....
I do use it that way and it makes the sense. At least for me.

And DF, 802 and UCX are also connected to computer using USB.
OP did not reveal if he has any equipment with Toslink connectors at all.
Your setup has Eventides and other stuff.
And I would connect all to the 802, one Interface for everything, Eclipse via AES, the H8000 and Octamic via Adat, Digiface and UCX is redundant.
Hi Waedi:
Again, thanks all over the place for your post.
I'm afraid that I mis-understood the entire process. I've already purchased a Digifaceusb unit but, apparently, it's not much good to me.
I also have an Audient ID44 MKI.
Thanks you very much for taking the time and trouble to assist me: I really appreciate it.
The Audient is another audio interface.
You have three different audio interfaces for interfaceing what ?
An audio interface is for connecting audio equipment to the DAW in the computer.
Microphones, keyboards, synthesizers, Organs, and other instruments or effect gear and the loudspeakers.
If I remember correct you want to record speech.
The babyface works fine also together with the X-touch.
Use the Babyface, it's the perfect interface for this.
Your question was this :
Is it possible to extend the Babyface Pro FS I/O by connecting it to a Digifaceusb with a couple of ADAT cables?
Answer : no
The meaning of " I/O " is unclear.
For a musician I/O may be analog XLR connectors
For the studio engineer I/O is input and output channels available in a DAW.
For you ? Digital or analog I/O ?
What equipment do you want to connect to the interfaces ?
Do you want to record one-person-speech ? Or recording a band ?
