Topic: [Solved] DriverKit 4.14 Issues - M1 Pro MBP macOS Sonoma UFX II

First driver update glitch in 21 years using RME products current config FF800 connected via ADAT to UFX II.

Upgrading from 4.12 to 4.14 - install progresses normally and Total Mix shows activity on relevant inputs/ports but no sound coming from computer when UFX II selected as output.

When loading DAW (Logic Pro 11) there is an unexpected delay and delay when loading new song/template. Interface and inputs/outputs appear but no sound and inputs not working.

When testing speakers through Mac 'Audio Midi Setup' app - delay and no sound when testing speakers.

Downgrading back to 4.12 works fine - any ideas appreciated.

Re: [Solved] DriverKit 4.14 Issues - M1 Pro MBP macOS Sonoma UFX II

Do you see a signal in the outputs when you test the speakers?

Re: [Solved] DriverKit 4.14 Issues - M1 Pro MBP macOS Sonoma UFX II

No, the signal doesn’t seem to be making it across to the app side. Also when I load Digicheck, it locates the device (registers sample rate) but wont run tests. Reports that the device isn't loaded.

You updated the UFX II to the latest firmware with DSP version 28?

Have an unpowered hub on a separate TB4 input and a powered usbc dock with the UFX plugged into the third TB4 input. Could this lead to some sort of contention?

Not an issue with 4.12 though.

Re: [Solved] DriverKit 4.14 Issues - M1 Pro MBP macOS Sonoma UFX II

I believe I am having the same issue on my UFX III
Mac Studio M1 Max
MacOS 14.6.1
UFX III Firmware v20
UFX III is plugged directly into USB-A port on the Mac Studio.

The system "sees" the interface, but no output from computer.

Edit: Rolling back to 4.12 is working for me as well.

How is the issue when you connect the interface to a USB-C port ?
Why connect an USB-C device to USB-A ?
Edit : I see the USB-A ports are also USB 3, it should work, but still the question how the USB-C ports behave.

I don't know that using the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports would behave differently. Those ports are otherwise occupied and it has not been necessary previously. As you say, the USB-A ports are USB3 and there have been no issues with functionality before this driver update.

Although we were not able to see this effect we think we found the issue in the code. Please try the new version 4.15:

Thanks for responding @MC - unfortunately no change, same issues with 4.15.

Did you try connect directly to the computer without any hub or dock ?

Re: [Solved] DriverKit 4.14 Issues - M1 Pro MBP macOS Sonoma UFX II

Yes, the UFX II is connected directly to one of the TB4 ports on the MBP - not mediated through any hub or dock.

You rebooted after install? Can you change the sample rate back and forth to see if that changes anything? Otherwise we would appreciate to get some screenshots of Audio MIDI setup, Settings dialog and TM FX to see your current setup.

Thanks so much for your time on this, I’ll have to try first thing tomorrow Australian EST and respond then.

Hi - tried adjusting sample rate in USB settings - everything is working again - very grateful for your help, thank you.

I installed 4.15 and rebooted. Computer output did not work initially, but does after cycling sample rate in Fireface USB Settings. I was set at 96k, changed to 48k, back to 96k.
To see if the setting would stick, I shut down my Mac and UFX III, and restarted. The issue persisted. I had to cycle sample rate again for computer audio to work properly. I put the Mac to sleep for a few minutes and it worked properly when waking, but I haven't had to time to see if that changes from a longer sleep. I did not try this on 4.14 when I briefly had it installed yesterday.

Thanks again, I've tried with Logic Pro and Digicheck with reboots and changing sample rates/unplugging replugging UFX II to see if I can trip it up, seems pretty solid so far.
