Topic: Headphone Cable Question

Hi everyone,

I just got the Drop + Sennheiser HD58 X Jubilee, a pair of open back headphones for my piano setup. The stock cable is 3.5mm with a 6.35mm adapter. Now I'm looking for a 6.35mm cable that can be plugged in directly into the headphone jack of the Babyface Pro FS.

What type of cable should I choose, balanced or unbalanced?

Many thanks for answering my question!

David

Hi waedi,

May I know why balanced? I believe the headphone port on the BF Pro FS is an unbalanced jack? Or am I remembering wrongly?

Thanks!

David

Re: Headphone Cable Question

It's not balanced but its stereo, balanced cables are used for stereo. Somehow.
you can simply look for regular headphone extension cable.

Sorry, that link is in German, and I don't speak German.

So, what cable is best for my scenario?

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the website. I'm not looking for an extention cable, though, just a 4.4mm regular headphone cable that fits the Sennheiser HD 6 series connectors. Should I get a balanced cable or an unbalanced one?

Thanks for answering my question.

Re: Headphone Cable Question

Sennheiser HD6 does not exist, please tell the exact product name

In your first post you requestet cable for 6.35mm, now you request 4,4mm, it's unclear what you want.
That's why I want to look into the documentation of your headphone.
Also please take my apologies because I did post photos of cables for you, wich is not helpful, I forgot you are a blind person.

You want to buy a cable for your headphone, right ?
One side plug in directly into the headphone, it has a socket somehow, and the other side of the cable 6,3mm TRS plug into the headphone socket of the Babyface, right ?

How long shall this cable be ?

For headphone cable there is no balanced or unbalanced cables, these are just stereo cables with TRS connectors.

Re: Headphone Cable Question

This may be what you want: Replacement Cable for SENNHEISER Headphones HD650 HD600 HD580 HD535 HD545 HD565 HD265 with 1/4" 6.3mm plug. Other listings for replacement cables for these headphones also include the HD58X in their listing.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028PGXRE

This is assuming the Babyface uses a standard TRS cable. I am using it with my HD600s and it works great for connection to the Phones 3/4 connection on my RME ADI-2 Pro FSR BE.

However, you will want something with different wiring if you want to connect it to a balanced headphone output — e.g., RME ADI-2 Pro FSR in balanced headphone mode (dual 6.3mm / 1/4" jacks) or the balanced headphone connector on the ADI-2 Pro 2/4 SE.

hi. I can see from photos that unlike the HD600 model that ships with a screw-on adapter, this model (and the 6xx drop) ships with a basic 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter, and I can understand why you'd want to change it. From a quick search on Amazon I can see that  cables with such screw-on adapters are available. That said I myself usually go for Sennheiser's genuine parts if I can find them, and can recommend the screw-on adapter with the HD600 - do double-check that the ends that plug into the drivers are the same.

Otherwise, the cable you need is a stereo cable, it has 3 wires, the original actually has 4 wires as technically it is two cables attached to each other - two wires for left & right signal (tip and ring of jack), and two "negative" wires connected together to the sleeve of the jack. Part number for hd-600 is, I think, 508688 (includes the adapter), and for the 660s2 (6.35mm jack) it's 700257. Again, double-check that the ends that plug into the drivers are the same.

Good luck

Re: Headphone Cable Question

I dont think you need that cable. Just use the one you have with the adapter. I have a HD580 for 20 years or more now, and the adapter never caused any issue. I am on my 4th cable now, those do break eventually, but the connection to the adapter never failed or crackled. Thinking you will get it better sound without an adapter is nonsense.

Re: Headphone Cable Question

Maybe it is just inconvience as this very cable does not have the adapter screwable like standard Sennheiser cable. So, it does not behave exactly like true Sen cable with adapter. One may disconnet it without wanting so.

Re: Headphone Cable Question

The HD580 adapter also is not screwable, my AKG is, but these are both very good adapters.

Re: Headphone Cable Question

But OP has Sennheiser HD58 X Jubilee. And someone has written that its adapter is not screwable. And probably screwable on cannot be used if one has it. (I mean it would not be possible to screw it on. Of course, it would be usable adapter without screwing.)

With fixed 1/4 inch plug: https://www.thomann.de/de/sennheiser_hd … zkabel.htm

With screw on adapter https://www.thomann.de/de/sennheiser_81 … zkabel.htm

Both should fit the classic 5xx/6xx series headphones.

Thanks. That is much lower cost than the one I posted from Amazon over here in the USA!  And a great cable.

Thank you! Sorry I didn't check this forum these days, as I wasn't notified by email. But this is exactly what I was looking for!

And sorry, it should be "6.35mm," not "4.4mm." I kept making that mistake. The Babyface Pro FS has a 6.35mm output, which I hope to use directly with a cable.

So far, the stock cable that comes with my HD58X Jubilee feels a bit stiff, for the lack of a better word, and I always have a feeling that somehow, it might break.

As for length, 1.8m / 2m is plenty enough for my keyboard setup.

Thanks again for your help!
