Topic: Issues with sending MIDI to TotalMix FX

Hello all,

I've been trying (for ages) to use my Novation LaunchControlXL as a MIDI control for TotalMix, but keep on having issues with it such as TotalMix jumping to another hardware output fader, faders that barely move, jumping faders etc. I'm attaching links to ome screen capture videos below to make it clear what the issues are.

Some of these issues also occur with another MIDI controller, so at least partly seems to be a software rather than hardware issue. Can anyone give advice for any (or all) of these issues? I was really hoping to use an external MIDI control as a sort of advanced volume / monitoring controller with TotalMix, but I wonder if the TotalMNix MIDI infrastructure is just too flimsy to allow that..?

Many thanks all,

Daniel

Re: Issues with sending MIDI to TotalMix FX

The user manual of this Ableton-Toy does not tell any word about the Mackie protocol, if it uses this or not.

You have to enable Mackie-protocol in the Totalmix / Options / Settings tab Midi : Enable protocol support

edit :
I found some more infos about this controller on the Novation web, it uses Mackie HUI.
Seems to be a Mackie protocol you can use.
Just enable protocol in the Mackie settings in Totalmix.

Re: Issues with sending MIDI to TotalMix FX

First impression: Looks like a MIDI misconfiguration in TM, where multiple TM-Controllers are assigned to the same HW Controller (your LaunchControl)?

Show us the Details: how you have set it up in TM (By posting screenshots or a video, or however):
Go to "Settings..." > "MIDI Tab" > and show the setting for each of the 4 Controllers.
And also show, how your settings are set in "Options " > "Submix linked to Midi Controller"

PS: I did not look into the manuals of LaunchControl. What i can just say to waedi's answer - "Mackie HUI Protocol" - it differs a lot from the 'older' "Mackie Protocol". In fact, completely different worlds, afaik.

Hi waedi - I already have the 'Enable Protocol Support' box ticked. Is that the only box under the 'Mackie Control Options' that needs to be ticked?

Thanks maggie33. As I wrote to waedi the only ticked box is the first one. Attaching below links to the screenshots you asked for.

Also worth mentioning that of all of these, the most problematic issue is the jump to another bottom fader (the mixes, or hardware faders) which the second video I linked to in the original post shows. Weirdly it always jumps to the same fader (in my case it's MA 19/20) and as you can imagine, this makes it practically impossible to use TotalMix properly.

Many thanks for the help all.

Re: Issues with sending MIDI to TotalMix FX

MIDI Controller 2,3,4 in TM is disabled?
OSC Controllers are disabled, too?

Just to make sure nothing other interferes with TM...

If so, you could download https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ to see what MIDI Messages are sent between which Devices to/from on your system.

Edit:
Just saw:
OSC Controllers are disabled, too?
Osc seems to be not active in your Screenshot.

But:
What about the other controllers 3-4?

And: check how your LK is configured. I mean, it depends what is configured in your LK Editor.

99% sure sth wierd is sent to TM from whatever source.

Btw: why did you enable Macke protocol, without activating the Feedback (Out Oort)?
There are perticular use cases for that… But you should know why. Do you?

It seems TM gets at least multiple Note On messages in a bulk, which leads to toggleing between busses and this behaviour.

To sum up: More Details are necessary to be able to help out.
