Topic: ARC USB Setup with TotalMix - Volume Control

Greets:
I have the ARC USB remote to use with my Fireface UCX II. As a low vision user who isn't able to read the small screen well, it's been immensely helpful.

But I need to smooth out my setup. I am getting "toggle" and "encoder" confused when it comes to my desired setup. For instance, I have one of the buttons on the ARC (via the ARC setup in TotalMix FX) set to choose Phones 1 to control the headphone volume. But when I push the button, in TotalMix it drops the fader down to unity gain, which effectively silents it. I then would try to use the encoder to move that fader, but I end up having to use my mouse in TotalMIx to slide it up.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how to best set up what I'd like. In my mind, I would choose either the headphones or the main out (my reference monitors) via a button assigned to each. I would press the button without any volume jumps, use the encoder to move the volume, and then leave it there. If I want to then control the headphone volume, I would press the assigned button on the ARC, and do similar as the main's volume.

I would appreciate some assistance with sorting this all out, so that I can have a much smoother experience. Thanks much!

Yes, I admit that it's messed up, and now I'm aiming to get it sorted.

I currently have for headphones "Volume Phones 1" set to Encoder. I do not see a function for the main out volume, but somehow I'm able to control it, but admittedly without understanding how it's supposed to work, especially when I want to control the headphone's volume without affecting the main out volume.

This is where I'm at. I am unsure if "Cue Phones 1" is what I should be using instead of "Volume Phones 1."

What say you?

Well, I might be getting a handle on things.

I do see that when the "Volume Phone 1" button is lit, the encoder controls what I'm hearing through my headphones. Then when I press the button again, the light is off, and then the main out volume now works without affecting the headphone volume.

It's still going to take some getting used to, but for now it's where I'd like it to be.

I still don't understand yet, for instance, how a button I pushed turned the Phone 1 input fader all the way down, but I'll eventually get it in time.

And I do not know what you do there if you do not tell what button you push (the 2nd time now).

I guess what happens.
You restore a TotalMix FX snapshot (the 1st two rows of buttons on the ARC USB)
and by this, you restore the volume of each output/submix. Is this correctly assumed?
If not, then please tell the exact steps so that somebody can reproduce this step by step.

If you do not want the volume to be being restored when recalling a snapshot, then you have to turn that behavior off.

Preferences (F2), section: "Snapshots and Workspaces"
Do not load: ....
From the Pull-Down menu select either "Main Volume" or "Main/Phones Volumes" if you want to have this for both.

A backup of workspace is not needed here after changing preferences.
These computer / setup related settings are stored in a different file.

Everyone makes mistakes from time to time, but why are you still continuing in this thread? It’s making it unnecessarily complicated for everyone to follow your issue and help you out in the end. Plus, it’s cluttering up the forum.
