Topic: Fireface UFX III doesn't fit in rack unit from Ebay

Hi

My fire face ufx iii doesn't fit in rack unit from Ebay. There's not enough space between the inner metal. Is there anything I can do?

My ssl pure drive octo fits fine at the bottom...

I've never installed units into a rack before...

Thanks

Steve

Sorry, what kind of answer do you expect? Simply buy a rack unit that follows the common specs for rack units.

iMac M1, Fireface 800, Logic Pro X

Re: Fireface UFX III doesn't fit in rack unit from Ebay

The dimensions of the UFX III are clearly described on the product page. It fits (with rack ears) in all standardized 19" racks (483mm). SSL pure drive octo, has the same width: 19".

Don't understand what you mean with "There's not enough space between the inner metal"?

All that you need is a rack for 19" devices like those below ....

I would buy the rack a little bit larger in terms of so called "rack units" (RU's) so that the device has enough space to allow a little air flow to transport heat. I also would buy a rack that is not too deep, so that the devices just fit so that it is easier in a passive cooled rack to transport the heat by the normal air flow in the room. 23cm is just right for most RME devices.

I do not know your requirements and there are many different racks available with different sturdyness and some to be well prepared for transport. If your device only "sits" beside your desk and does not need special protection, then have a look at this series of racks e.g. from Thomann:

For the UFX III I would buy 1 Rack Unit more, so that there is enough space for air flow:

If you intend to rack a 2nd 19" unit in the future, maybe a RME 12Mic preamp, then I would buy a rack with three rack units for the two devices and leave a little bit space between all devices.
https://www.thomann.de/de/thon_3he_compact_rack.htm

If you intend to rack a 3rd 19" unit in the future, maybe a RME 12Mic and additionally an ADDA converter,
then I would get a rack with 4 Rack Units, for the three devices.

BTW, it would have been very informative if you had delivered an URL or a picture to see, what you got now.

I’m not sure your answers are relevant to what I’m describing but if you can see these pics maybe you can help pls

This looks like something self-made, without focus on precision :-)

Take a hammer and tap the metal rails on the left and right from the inside. It looks like just 1,2 mm are missing.

Here are the official sizes of a 19" Rack (the left one):

I personally use 3 of these good old IKEA LACK "hi-quality-Racks" ;-)

- Has exactly 455 mm inner width, every Rack component/unit fits perfectly!
- Fits optically better in my room at home as i not a fan of "server-room-design" ;-)
- Discontinued in IKEA Stores, but costs about 10-20 Euro via eBay ;-)
