Topic: Running digiface USB on old and new macs with same firmware

Hi,

I have a situation where i need to use the digiface USB on both old machines (OS10.9) and new machines (up to OS13). I can get it to work on the new machine by running the firmware update, but now, i cannot use it on the old machine.

Is there anyone who has had this issue? Will it ever be possible to run the digiface on both machines without having to upgrade/downgrade the firmware when switching between machines?

Cheers

Re: Running digiface USB on old and new macs with same firmware

I use Babyface and Digiface USB with latest firmware on every computer, M1-Mac and G5-iMac, no problem.

What driver version is installed ?

M1-Sequoia, Madiface Pro, Digiface USB, Babyface silver and blue

Re: Running digiface USB on old and new macs with same firmware

I am running 2.23 for the OS10.9 machine, and 4.16 for the OS13 machine. What OS are you running on the G5?

I think its 10.5, that computer is in a room in another town, I don't know wich driver is there.
The M1 here is on Sequoia with the 4.16 driver.

Is Totalmix the latest version ?
You can download Totalmix separately and drag'n'drop into the application folder.

Great. Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to re-install total mix and the driver next time i get the chance, and post results here in case someone is interested in the future.

Checked a few things. Im running OS 10.9. When i start Fireface USB settings from the terminal, i get an error about invalid color system (laberColor). As far as i can see, labelColor was introduced in OS 10.10, therefore the driver is not working (i suspect). i will try to upgrade to 10.10, and see if the driver works... Computer sees Digiface USB, but can't open Faceface USB settings.

All works fine on the newer OS (from 10.13 to 13.3.3)

Re: Running digiface USB on old and new macs with same firmware

installed 10.10... still no result. Can't get old os 10.10 machine to work with digiface USB on driver 2.23. Fireface USB settings wont open. Tried multiple restarts and complete reinstallations. Help? Do i need to go to 10.12 ?

Why not use the MacOS Software-update function and upgrade to the newest possible system ?

Upgraded to the newest software possible. Still not working. Can anyone confirm that their digiface USB can run on driver 2.23 on a digiface USB with the newest firmware update?

There is no special firmware update for newer drivers for the Digiface USB. You either have firmware 18 or 25, which are two different hardware states, with identical features. Which is your firmware version?

Checked the firmware. Digiface says firmware 35. I did not manage to get it to work with the 2.23 driver. However, i managed to upgrade my machine (macpro 3.1) to OS 10.12 (using a patch for unsupported machines) so that i could run driver 3.33. Now, everything works perfectly! So, i suspect something is wrong with driver 2.23 and the firmware. But i am not sure. It would be good for RME to verify that driver 2.23 works with new firmware! Hope this can help someone in the future. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Not sure if this combination has been tested specifically.
