Topic: UFX III + 12MIC with MADI optical connection

Hello.

I would like to extend the number of microphone inputs in my setup using MADI. I know that I can use coaxial cables but would like to use optical cables.

What SFP module should I use for UFX III?

For 12MIC module I can use:
https://rme-audio.de/sfp-module.html

How should I connect two 12MIC modules with fiber optics to UFX III?
I'm asking because I could only find examples with coaxial cabels loop.

Best,
Daniel

Re: UFX III + 12MIC with MADI optical connection

Simply from device to device in a serial fashion.

UFX III--------------------12Mic--------------------12Mic--------------------back to UFX III
       SC-------OM4------LC--LC------OM4-------LC--LC------OM4-------SC

OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber cables
2x SC - LC
1x LC - LC

The cables can be up to 2km between each of the devices.
Patch cables up to 30m are usually available in the shops.

If you buy duplex cables you have two, if wanted/needed you can remove a clip and split duplex to 2x single cable.

Re: UFX III + 12MIC with MADI optical connection

So should I connect the TX port from the UFX's SFP to the RX SFP in the first 12MIC, then the TX from the first 12MIC to the RX in the second 12MIC, and from the second 12MIC from the TX to the RX in the UFX?

Re: UFX III + 12MIC with MADI optical connection

Yes, transmit of one device to receive on the other and so on and back to the UFX III.
Connect 12Mic also to LAN to be able to perform some configuration using browser e.g. routing.
Regarding routing .. the channels that the particular device needs from/to MADI.
Dont forget the routing for the rest of the channels which the 12Mic does not use itself.
You need to configure the routing for passing the channels through.

Routing of phones outputs I left out here, this only as an example.
