Topic: Connecting Behringer FX2000 to RME ADI-2 Pro as External Effect

Hello RME community,

I'm looking for guidance on how to integrate my Behringer FX2000 with my RME ADI-2 Pro setup. Here's my current configuration and what I'm trying to achieve:

Current Setup:
- RME ADI-2 Pro (used as audio interface and AD/DA converter)
- Universal Audio 610 preamp
- Behringer FX2000

Goal:
I want to use the Behringer FX2000 as an external effects processor, connected to the RME ADI-2 Pro via a send/return configuration. This would allow me to:
1. Record a dry signal
2. Monitor my vocals with effects in real-time, without the latency of plugin processing

Challenge:
The RME ADI-2 Pro doesn't have dedicated aux send/return inputs/outputs. I'm unsure how to set up the routing to achieve this configuration.

Desired Workflow:
1. Send an aux signal from the RME ADI-2 Pro to the FX2000
2. Return the processed signal back to the RME ADI-2 Pro
3. Use the FX2000 as an external effect unit on my tracks

Questions:
1. Is it possible to set up a send/return configuration with the RME ADI-2 Pro and Behringer FX2000?
2. If so, which outputs and inputs should I use on the ADI-2 Pro for the send and return?
3. Are there any specific settings or routing configurations I need to adjust in the ADI-2 Pro's software to make this work?
4. If this setup isn't possible, are there any alternative solutions you'd recommend to achieve a similar result with my current hardware?

Any advice or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

smile

Re: Connecting Behringer FX2000 to RME ADI-2 Pro as External Effect

Universal Audio 610 preamp and Behringer FX2000 both are analog i/o only.
So, due to ADI-2 Pro having 1 stereo = 2 channels mono of AD-conversion, the following configuration will be limited to mono effects.

• Set ADI-2 to Class Compliant Multi-channel USB Mode (see manual page 40):
- Unplug USB (necessary for stereo / multichannel mode change).
- SETUP / Options / Device Mode/DSD / Basic Mode: USB.
- SETUP / Options / Device Mode/DSD / CC Mode: Multichannel.
- Replug USB.
- I/O / Phones Out 3/4  / Source: USB 3/4

• On Windows PC, install the ASIO driver for ADI-2.

• Now you have all ADI-2 Pro’s hardware ins and outs available in your DAW.
Might be necessary to activate them in DAW’s ASIO setup.

• DAW config and cables:

- Use ADI-2 Record Analog 1/2 left as input for the UA610 preamp,
connect UA610 XLR out to ADI-2 XLR left input.

- Use ADI-2 Playback Analog 1/2 for your monitoring on headphones and / or speakers.

- Use ADI-2 Playback Analog 3/4 as Aux send,
connect a TRS to 2xTS jack cable from ADI-2 front PH 3/4 out to FX 2000 jack inputs.

- Use ADI-2 Record Analog 1/2 right as input for the FX2000 Aux return,
connect one FX2000 XLR out to ADI-2 XLR right input.

• If you want your FX in stereo, buy an el’cheapo AD converter with optical output and connect it between FX2000 out and ADI-2 Pro Optical in.
Then use ADI-2 Record 5/6 SPDIF/ADAT as Aux return in your DAW.

• Same for the Aux send:
If you need ADI-2’s PH 3/4 as secondary headphones output, buy an el’cheapo DA-converter with Optical input and connect it between ADI-2 Optical out and FX2000 analog ins.
Then use ADI-2 playback 7/8 SPDIF/ADAT as Aux send in your DAW.

Alternatively get a RME recording interface with TotalMix FX and  enough analog I/O ports.
And one digital port to integrate the reference converter into the setup for monitoring, see also:
