Topic: Compatibility Issues with FireWire and USB Devices

Hello everyone, I'm new to the RME community and hoping to get some guidance. I recently purchased an RME interface and I’m trying to connect it to both my FireWire and USB devices. However, I’m facing compatibility issues when switching between the two. Sometimes the interface doesn’t recognize the FireWire connection, and other times I get dropped signals when using USB. Is there a recommended setup or troubleshooting steps to ensure smooth operation between both connection types? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Compatibility Issues with FireWire and USB Devices

Hi
No idea what you want to do.
What interface is it ? where did you buy it ? Where are you located ?
What computer you use ? Win / mac ?
What other devices are you trying to connect ?
Where exactly you want connect to what device ?

The interface needs to be connected to a computer, not to other USB or Firewire devices.

Re: Compatibility Issues with FireWire and USB Devices

Hi waedi,

Thanks for your response! I’m using the RME Fireface UCX, and I purchased it from an online retailer. I'm on a Mac, and I'm trying to connect it primarily to my DAW, along with a few MIDI controllers and some external effects. I thought I could switch between FireWire for lower latency and USB for flexibility, but it seems to be causing issues. Any tips on how to set this up effectively? Appreciate your help!

Re: Compatibility Issues with FireWire and USB Devices

Forget Firewire.
Use USB connection only. The latency will be best possible.

Bring it to work with a driver and perform the firmware update, then install the newest possible driver.
