Topic: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

Would really love to see RME release a 32 analogue i/o over dsub interface with the DSPFX suite for monitoring and steadyclock FS.

Only other company who do this arrangement are antelope but i think RME build quality, support and drivers would be a far more attractive option for just about everyone.

Antelope say the Orion 32+ is their best selling model so I'm always surprised no other company does something comparable. Presonus released the quantum 4848 very briefly but now discontinued. Im guessing thunderbolt was the issue (as seems to be 90% of the problems with antelope).

I bet RME could deliver that product over USB3 and watch all high channel count hybrid studio customers come flocking to them. Could USB3 handle the max channel count plus basic FX with stability? Reply here if you think RME should seriously consider adding this to their product list!

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

So on further digging through RME products, the solution here would be to buy M32 AD, then an M32 DA, plus a MADI interface. 3 different units, 3 different power supplies, very high cost. It seems then its a very expensive thing to produce at high quality, so will revise my request above to a more realistic 16 in 16 out version - essentially an 'M16 pro AD/DA combined' over USB? I guess then that the UAD Apollo 16 interface does this, but again, paying for an expensive and unnecessary FX suite / DSP where I think RME's basic FX suite covers utility FX just fine already.

Any thoughts?

...ah! so close - M1610-Pro...but only 8 outs sad Maybe a version some day with 16 in and out then. I'll be quiet now smile Appreciate it must be an impossible task keeping all customers happy!

BTW you need to get two devices at least

RME follows a modular design approach
a) recording interface with TotalMix FX
b) external preamps, converter through AES, SPDIF, ADAT, MADI, AVB, Dante

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

Yeah I'm slowly figuring that out Ramses! Seems to be the modular world covering a huge amount of format options per device for high end pro audio applications. I guess what I'm hoping for is a combined interface 16-32 i/o with simplified format options for home studio patchbay-based hybrid studio users with a lot of outboard analogue gear and the option to do analogue summing. I'd be open to investing in an HDSP PCI MadiFX card if I could get the right I/O configuration as converters in a single additional unit, but nothing quite right in the RME range just now without using multiple rack spaces / power supplies / bank robberies. Hopefully in future...

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

M-32 Pro AD und DA are already improvements, look at these little older designs
https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_m32_da.htm

Now you have in 1 RU all that you want incl. redundant PSU, AVB and MADI.
https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_m_32_ad_pro.htm

If you want a smaller recording interface, get MADIface USB.
https://www.rme-audio.de/de_madiface-usb.html

Then you only need 2 RU for M-32 Pro AD (1 RU) and DA (1 RU).

Alternatively, from used market (as it is not being manufactured anymore)
https://www.rme-audio.de/de_madiface-pro.html

Another option to get a MADIface XT in 9.5" format which is also compact and which has 3 MADI busses which allows you to connect even more devices through MADI:

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

A 16 channel converter or even interface (!) would be great, not least as a solution for Atmos.

RME is letting Ferrofish, UAD, Antelope and others taking this market and it's a pitty.

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

Good point Noisy, hadn't even thought of atmos users.
Yeah that's clinched it RME - now's the time for a 16 in/out over db25 interface (thunderbolt or usb3) with onboard FX / steadyclock FS. Please dont leave us to deal with antelope / uad drivers!
Wasnt aware of ferrofish though noisy - thanks for that! Looks good

Yesterday at Superbooth told RME rep about the lack of a 12 or 16 channel USB-based interface in their portfolio.

RME rep: "watch this space..."

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

Interesting! Thanks for posting that little nugget of info Noisy.
I'll be space watching as advised...

Re: USB3 Analogue 32 in 32 out over DB25

Just bumping this thread in response to the lukewarm reception the new UAD appollo gen 2 interfaces seem to be getting - essentially seems to be a bit of a repaint job rather than a significant gen 2 upgrade. Still think if RME plonked an interface connection on the M1620 Pro it would grab that entire bit of the market overnight. The current need for buying 2 units to make the 1620 work is too ugly a solution for most home studios. Fingers crossed for 2025 with cash ready to throw at RME!
