Topic: RME UCXii or BF Pro FS for vocal recording with SM7b

Hi all,

I'm planning getting either a BF Pro FS or most likely a UCXii, as the UCXii has 10 dB more preamp gain. Question is if the UCXii will have less hiss/self noise from the preamp while driving a gain hungry SM7b? Or is there no difference? Looking for the cleanest preamp with the least amount of self noise possible with transparant recording quality, which from the two would be best, BF Pro FS or the UCXii?

Thanks for your help.

No significant difference apart from the amount of gain. Signal/noise ratio is comparable.

Thanks for the response!
Would that mean it will only make a significant difference if I were to whisper but self noise difference would be negligible if do regular singing or rap recordings? I was always thinking that the more preamp gain a preamp has the more silent it remains for longer. So a 60 dB input gain on a 65 dB interface would deliver more hiss driven at 60 dB compared to a similar preamp with a max of 75 dB driven at 60 dB. Is this assumption incorrect when comparing the BBF Pro FS to the UCXii?
