Topic: How to connect up my USB Digiface?

Next week I’ll be removing two Quantums and installing a USB Digiface.

How do I connect a Ferrofish Pulse 16 and Audient ASP 880 to the Digiface USB?

The Pulse 16 connection seems obvious but how do I clock the ASP 880 with it only having ADAT out?

Do I keep the BNC connection between the Pulse and the ASP880?

Have the Digiface as Master and the Pulse and ASP880 as slave?

Any advice apprciated as I just want to get up and running as quick as possible.

Thanks

Re: How to connect up my USB Digiface?

The 880 is by it's nature the master, all others have to sync, clock-mode external optical.

No BNC needed, use toslink optical cable.

Thankyou

Down the line I will add another Pulse 16 to the Digiface and just use the analog outs on the ASP880 going into 8 channels of the pulse.

Thats no problem, routing in Totalmix very easy.

An overview about clock sync, see this blog article:

https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ent … ios-en-de/

I would keep Digiface USB as clock master for operational reasons.
The Application sets sample rate and RME driver sets sample rate in the Digiface USB as main interface and clock master.

All slaves will follow the clock automatically.

Digiface USB has no WC.

Ferrofish has digital inputs (ADAT), so you can configure it as slave to receive clock via ADAT input from Digiface USB.

The Audient has no ADAT inputs, but WC like the Ferrofish, so distribute clock between Ferrofish and Audient via WC.

Any further Pulse can clock sync either via ADAT or WC from Pulse #1.

If clock sync via ADAT and WC is possible then use via ADAT, WC isn't any better and you save an additional WC cable.

Maybe provide an ASCII drawing of your final intended setup, thanks.

Thank you

Another quick question are there any pitfalls in using the headphone out to a stereo return on a mixer for monitoring  purposes?

Ideally I  would like to keep Pulse output for hardware equipment.

Re: How to connect up my USB Digiface?

You can use headphone outputs as unbalanced line output.
