Topic: ADI-2 DAC volume control

Hi there smile

this is  a real newb question - but the manual is so dense:

How do i set the DAC to variable output volume?

My preamp is broken so I'm gonna connect the DAC directly to the power amp.

Re: ADI-2 DAC volume control

Make sure the "lock volume" option is not enabled roll

I know, just don't know how to do that. The menu system seems so complicated.

Sorry for asking such a lame question.

Do you know the remote control software "ADI-2 Remote"?

You need the latest firmware and MADIface driver installed.
Note: firmware update requires the MADIface driver installed.

The reference converter needs to be connected to your PC via USB, otherwise ADI-2 Remote software won't work.

The  manual is available as PDF and can be easily searched through for 'lock volume'. And voila, page 23, or Chapter 12.1 Subpage Settings. And after that you will say 'of course, exactly where it should be...'.

The question is more like - who turned that on? This is not default.

If you bought a unit that someone else has made personal settings on, I suggest to do a reset.
The default settings are typically completely usable and you avoid “strange” results:

While powering up, push and hold the VOL button (NOT the VOLUME dial) and Encoder 1, until you see the message: “Reset done.

User Setups and EQ Presets are not deleted.

Or a full factory reset, only if the above didn’t turn out like you intend:

While powering up, push and hold the VOL button (NOT the VOLUME dial) and Encoder 1 and Encoder 2, until you see the message: “Reset done“.

All user Setups and EQ Presets are deleted.
Take notes before, or store them through the Remote App, if you want to keep some.

Re: ADI-2 DAC volume control

a "factory reset" option in the menu would be easier to use instead of this Konami code smile

• SETUP / Setups / Load/Store all Settings / Setup Select: Load Factory(Reset All).
• SETUP / Setups / Load/Store all Settings / Start: (Press 1s).
This is the 1st level reset.

For a full reset, e.g. if something really got screwed, the “power-on-method” is the only way to go.

Re: ADI-2 DAC volume control

I actually set it to locked volume myself, quite some time ago.

Anyway I managed to make it work..

However, I still get no soind from my monoblock poweramps, connecting the RME directly to them using XLR. Does this mean that there is something wrong with the mono blocks, or do I have to manually select XLR output somewhere in the menu?

Re: ADI-2 DAC volume control

• Do the horizontal meters show any signal?

• Push Volume dial half a second to switch outputs.

• Unplug headphones / IEMs.

• Check if the power amp has an input selector to switch to XLR input and maybe a level control.

If this doesn‘t help, from the manual page 27:

14.1.3 Phones / DSD / Power

The subpage Phones / DSD / Power has the following entries:

Mute Line OFF, vs. Phones, Toggle Ph/Line. Toggle Plugged. The default, vs. Phones, activates mute of Line Outs when inserting a phones or IEM plug. Alternatively Toggle activates the ability to manually switch between 'front' and 'rear'. It allows to have the Phones/IEM connected all the time. To change push the VOLUME knob for half a second. Via Remap Function Keys this function can also be controlled by one of the four function keys or the remote control. Toggle Plugged additionally activates the switching between Phones and IEM, automatically detected by the sensor contacts of the two outputs. Which also works via Remote and Function Keys, if Toggle Ph/Line has been activated there.

If all doesn‘t help, a Full Factory Reset would be a good idea.

Re: ADI-2 DAC volume control

there is definitely movement in the volume meters.
If I do a soft reset, will the ADI output to XLR as default - with no headset connected?

Yes.

After full factory reset
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 59#p226159
start with the basics:
Everything disconnected except the source and the power amp.

ADI-2 starts with an Auto-Input-Mode and a basic configuration that takes care of getting you sound.

If this doesn’t work, check cables from ADI-2 to power amp and the amp.
When unplugging the XLR cables from ADI-2, with power amp on, you typically should hear a faint click sound.
Don‘t do this if the power amp is connected with RCA cables.

From the manual page 7:

5.2 Quick Start

Connect the unit to the included power supply and push the red lit Standby button to start. The ADI-2 DAC ships with Source Auto (I/O – Line Out – Settings - Source) as default setting.

…. In mode Source Auto the input is switched to SPDIF automatically as soon as an SPDIF signal is present.

….

To change between phones and rear output without unplugging phones: change Mute Line to Toggle Ph/Line or Toggle Plugged, see chapter 14.1.3.
