Topic: Excel Template for Documenting TM FX Routing and Studio Setup (EN/DE)

I had to document my setup and TotalMix FX routing. I created a documentation in Excel format for that purpose.
For the one other, this might be useful as well, e.g., as a time saver. Simply use what appears to be useful for you.
I kept my settings in this template file so that you have a real example and can better see the purpose.

Current Status

The Excel file is "work in progress", but ready for use. Primarily, I’ll address my documentation needs, but I’ve designed it so that it could also be helpful for others and even larger setups.

Last Version of Excel: v009

Brother application doesn't allow copy/pasting Label2 with symbols, need to use ASCII chars again.
Details see Tab History in the Excel file.

Copyright

I want to keep things simple. I have just one request: If you modify or share the Excel file for your own purposes, please keep the copyright notice in the first tab so that everyone knows that the Excel file and the idea originated from me. Thank you in advance for respecting this.

Here is the link to the blog article where you can find the Excel file:

Just one picture from the Excel, to bring some color in, not that this posting looks too black and white ;-)

Thanks for sharing.
I did not see any formulas in your excel anymore.
So, you entered the values manually at all?

And - no desire or time to participate regarding the scripting stuff?
If so, NP - just let me know. regards. meg

It was already finished completely. Based on that, I knew how much manual work it is; therefore I got the idea of exporting TM FX matrix information to CSV format which can easily be imported into Excel.

Here it is of no use because at this point I have no additional Tabs with imported CSV values.
Once the imported data is there, it is easy to add the formulas again.

I created the demo Excel with formula for two purposes:
- for you so that it is easier to understand the concept and the requirements
- for me to see, how I would best access the imported data from the user formatted tabs including docu

No, it's not like that. I would still be happy to get a script that even a scripting newbie can use easily, so as not to create unnecessary hurdles for easy use of the Excel file at this point.

Although I have to say that I still would prefer a defined export from TotalMix FX so that the installation of 3rd party tools (python) and libraries (using pip, a command line tool) would not be needed.

I have decided to publish the current status because it may be easier to understand the concept and the requirements if the finished Excel file is completely visible. Additionally I didn't want to delay the whole thing for too long.

But I couldn't do it immediately because it took me a little time to think about, in what format I want to publish that.
With or without protection for cells/formulas. With such stuff, I never had to deal up to now, and I was undecided.

In the end, I decided not to protect anything, to give everyone the greatest possible freedom to customize things for the own demand.  The only condition of use is not to delete the first tab with the copyright notice.

Proposal: lets use the other thread for the development aspects and this one for feeedback for the Excel.

Thanks for your work and time.

Very nice. Thanks again! I especially like your idea how you manage and document your cables (via Cable IDs).
Will adapt this, to fix up my cablesalat here ;-)

Re: Excel Template for Documenting TM FX Routing and Studio Setup (EN/DE)

Nice again ;-)

I want to share my Idea, inspired by your doc and regarding my use case:
F. ex: when sitting on the Back of the Rack and fiddeling with cables, i wanted to...
a) check all Cables (IDs) coming from UnitA and going into UnitB...
b) or check all Cables (IDs) going into UnitA and coming from UnitB...

So i expanded your Sheet as follows - the Description Column C in Sheet "Cabling" like this:
- Added Column with Title "UnitA"
- Added Column with Title "Direction" (which has the possible values: visible as "▶︎" or "◀︎" - for "true/false)"
- Added Column with Title "UnitB"
-> and made the "Connection" regarding the Cables between them (vice versa)

--> Now, i can filter these columns with 2 clicks to see what is actually Outgoing from UnitA, etc

Just my addition - maybe its useful for you, too.

Can convert it to an excel, if you would like to see what i mean...

Re: Excel Template for Documenting TM FX Routing and Studio Setup (EN/DE)

Good morning.

Device A and B are already there for filtering, maybe you overlooked?

Thanks for your suggestions, I modified Tab Cabling, normalized some values, changed formulas..

Label 2 is shorter now without redundant info from Label 1 (which is attached during cable inventory before use)
It is optional to attach it, but useful indeed if you are at the rack and do not have the Excel in front of you.

You are absolutely right. I overlooked that in Numbers (I use on Mac) the Filter Icons are not shown directly in the header row.

Well, no problem, I named and colored it now differently. By normalization of data fields, I could also get rid of one column.
