Topic: Yamaha HS 8

Hello everyone,
I never listen to speakers ( headphones only )
Just out of curiosity : how would the RME ADI 2 DAC FS work, with Yamaha HS 8??
Here some specs , Yamaha HS8

Thank you, in advance

Flawless as ADI-2 can adapt itself to almost any amp or active speaker, and the HS 8 has a wide range of levels it can work with.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

I have a friend ( different location ) he is using the Yamaha HS8 with iFi-audio micro iDSD Signature , that's why I asked
https://ifi-audio.com/products/micro-id … I8RwCSfrP1
I told him about the RME ADI 2 DAC FS, he knows, I used the iFi-audio micro iDSD Signature with my headphones ( Denon D9200, Shure 1540, Beyerdynamic T5 3rd gen, Dan Clark E3 ) and I was blown away when I switched to RME ADI 2
The sound quality is huge between iFi Signature and RME ADI2
Would the sound quality will be different, for active speakers, if he switches from iFi Signature to RME ADI2 ??
Thank you

Re: Yamaha HS 8

I can‘t comment on the ifi.

What I can say:
I‘m professionally working with various RME converters in my studio for ages, and they have one thing in common:
They are evidently totally true to the source, be it a live instrument or a recorded track.

ADI-2 is RME‘s top converter, so…

Re: Yamaha HS 8

Thank you, KaiS
As I already said, when I switched from iFi Signature to RME ADI2, I was like " wow, can't believe it "
Every single pair of headphones I own, sounds better. Much better.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

My friend ordered the RME ADI2 DAC FS
As I said, he is using it with Yamaha HS8, only.
Does he have to bother with the EQ preset ?
I think, there are presets for headphones, only.
Thank you

Speakers in a room can benefit from EQ.
It‘s more about the individual room than the speakers, so presets wouldn‘t make any sense.

You need a measurement tool to see the irregularities of the room that needs EQ.

I recommend FFT from Andrew Smith, part of the AudioTools suite for iDevice.
https://apps.apple.com/de/app/fft/id298840058

Opposed to many other toy-like analyzer apps, it’s a professional tool that provides reasonable results.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

Ok, thank you so much

Re: Yamaha HS 8

One last question, please.
He will receive the RME ADI 2 DAC FS, tomorrow.
Should he connect it through RCA or XLR ?
Thank you in advance

Re: Yamaha HS 8

Audio quality is the same. XLR is a little bit better in electronically noisy environments, but that is mostly for mic levels. If you don't experience noise from your speakers cinch is perfect.

To use cinch makes no sense in this setup, as the Yamaha HS8 has no cinch inputs.

As both devices offer balanced I/O he should use a balanced connection which automatically prevents any potential noise issues of the environment.

I would use a cable of known quality with XLR plugs which are locking and with Neutrik plugs (costs alone around €4,30 per plug), e.g.: https://www.thomann.de/de/sommer_cable_ … g0q_3m.htm

Alternatively, something from Cordial, e.g.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

He received the RME, I helped him with the driver and software, with Team Viewer
After making some settings, he said he loves it.
Much better than the Signature.
I recommended it to buy some XLR cables.
What I don't understand : he has 44.1 Khz only.
There must be some settings in Windows 10 ( Control Panel - sound)
I'll check again on weekend, with the Team Viewer
Thank you so much, guys.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

This is not unusual. 44.1 kHz is the windows default and most audio content has a sample rate of 44.1 kHz.

If you are not streaming, I can recommend you MusicBee as music player. Works also nicely with ASIO drivers.
Supports automatic switching of sample rate if some music content should have a different sample rate.

With MusicBee remote plugin you can even remote control MusicBee via an Android device, which can be useful if your Laptop or PC is the player.

Re: Yamaha HS 8

I have 192 simple rate
Windows 10, as well.
With Signature, he has 192, too

What do you mean by signature?

Re: Yamaha HS 8

Does it make a difference on Yamaha HS8, when using RCA vs XLR ?
I mean, Ohm, impedance, power, etc ?

Re: Yamaha HS 8

As I mentioned already in #11, those active monitors have no Cinch inputs.
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 87#p224187

The best is to use XLR because the plugs have usually a lock.

He is using it with RCA to RCA
I haven't seen it yet, he is living in a different country
