Topic: Fireface800 Upgrade Question

Has anyone here upgraded from a Fireface800 to a Fireface802FS? I would like to hear what difference has it made in latency and reliability, and if you think it's a must do? Thank you, and appreciated!

You can take a look into this Excel file comparing interfaces

My recommendation is to upgrade to the UFX II.

I find the design more consistent in that the microphone gain and the volume of the headphones can also be saved digitally in snapshots and workspaces.

If you don't need the pitch function of the USB driver, the more modern MADIface driver offers you the possibility to set the ASIO buffer size for extreme recording situations up to 32 samples @single speed, with the USB driver 48 samples were the minimum.

I wouldn't want to do without the modern features such as Autoset (e.g. for levelling the Mic and Inst inputs) and DURec, which you can only find in the UFX II.

We recently had a thread in which someone asked how he could adjust the gain settings for the microphone inputs to within 0.5 dB, which is much easier with the digitally controlled mic inputs.

Another advantage is that the interface can be operated via the display if you want to use it in stand-alone mode.
DURec in particular is very practical here, allowing you to operate the UFX II like a cassette recorder.

The 2nd MIDI input can be useful if you have many MIDI devices or if you would like to separate the control of your devices and the remote control of some RME devices, like an Octamic XTC.
Newer Mic Preamps like the 12Mic don't have a separate MIDI ports, there you would need either something MADI based for remote control (Auxdevice via MIDI over MADI) or LAN based to be able to remote control with RME connector.
