Topic: ADI-2 Pro coaxial out?

If one wants to acquire a very old DAC which says it supports "192khz via coaxial", is it possible to feed that from the ADI-2 Pro by building a custom cable using DE-9 connector and a BNC connector? Is it still pins 2 and 6 one needs to connect?

Yes, the pinout is provided in section 33.7 of the manual.

There's more to it than just the connector type as the bitstream data is different between Pro and Consumer digital streams.  Specific bits in the stream carry different data to the receiver from the transmitter, and since the ADI-2 is a consumer device, data will definitely be missing in the bitstream when feeding a pro device.  Regardless, if that's all you've got, you should certainly get music from it.

The differences between the professional AES and the consumer SPDIF data format is practically negligible.
The differences are just few status bits, not in the audio section.

The major difference is the electrical format, but even this one is cross-compatible most of the time (with fitting adapters) if the distance is kept within few meters.



ADI-2 Pro offers both formats anyway, just choose the right pins in the DB-9 connector (see manual page 71), or use the breakout cable with an RCA cable and a fitting adapter RCA/Coax to BNC.
