Topic: Babyface Pro FS & Ferrofish Pulse 16

Hello,

I just received a Ferrofish Pulse 16 and I’m re-racking and re-cabling my studio. I plan to connect the Pulse 16 to my Babyface Pro FS via Toslink

I’m debating which to set as the clock master. Any recommendations, experiences, or considerations you would be willing to share?

Re: Babyface Pro FS & Ferrofish Pulse 16

1. you can only use 8 of the 16 ch
2. BBF Pro FS as clock master has operational advantages.
you only need to set the sample rate in the application/DAW and the Ferrofish will follow the sample rate of the master.

Simultaneously, yes. With Ferrofish internal routing I should be able to select which 8 those are and modify as needed. At least, that is my understanding currently

Yes, I am trying to determine which to use, Ferrofish Pulse or BBF

I had a Cranborne ADAT500, but returned it due to ongoing issues. I’m using the Ferrofish and a Wes Audio chassis as the replacement for my 500 series gear. I also have an external preamp and an 1176 I plan to connect via the Pulse 16.
With the Cranborne, they recommended using their unit as a clock master and setting the BBF to slave

Thanks for the link, nice write up

Re: Babyface Pro FS & Ferrofish Pulse 16

Due to RME
- SteadyClock FS technology, the BBF Pro FS will be a perfect clock slave of the Pulse 16
- FS clock, the BBF Pro FS will deliver a fine clock signal as master.

You can try both ways, but I think it won't make a big or noticeable difference.
Therefore, I would decide to use the BBF Pro FS as clock master for the mentioned operational advantages.

Thanks for your input. I’ve spent the last few months doing way too much troubleshooting. I think I’d prefer to bet on the RME for stability. So, agreed. I’ll set it as master and move on
