Topic: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

and back on when I turn it on? I don't just mean standby mode. I understand standby mode uses 12 watts? That adds up over a year.

I was thinking of getting a powerstrip that detects when the master is off/on and plugging it into that. Just curious if someone else did this via software?

SETUP / Options / Device Mode/DSD / Auto Standby: #h

This way at least ADI-2 switches off automatically when not in use.
Auto Standby detects audio input signals.

An automatic power-up does not exist.

Wrong.

I was thinking of getting a powerstrip that detects when the master is off/on and plugging it into that.

This is a valid solution.

How do you plan to do this via software if your PC shuts off? wink

And there is no way to wake up the unit with input signal or with software. You can use either switchable or smart outlet/powerstrip or the button on your IR remote controller.

How many watts does the RME use in standby mode if not 12 watts? Also people have got very fancy setups over usb when their computer shutsdown/restarts etc. Figured some hobbyist here might have gone down this road before.

1) Which RME specifically?
2) Being a European manufacturer, RME complies with EU regulations that require electronics to not consume more than 0.5 W in standby mode, and in fact much less than that.
3) Where did you get the 12 W figure from?

Re: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

The ADI-2 Pro FS R BE
on the product page
Tech specs
scroll down to general :

Standby power consumption: 50 mW

The ADI-2/4 has a bit more :

Standby power consumption AC 230 V: 280 mW

Thats 42 times less than 12 Watt

If one plans to leave the house for years, better shut down the elctricity of the house.

Re: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

You can most likely use a scripting software like AutoHotKey to run a script on shutdown, or create a script that shuts off the adi and then shuts down windows. If I remember correctly you can remote control the adi with midi commands. So in effect you would first send the power off midi command to the adi and then shut down the pc.

Re: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

But is it worth the effort if ADI-2 Pro FS R BE takes 0.05 W? It takes about 1 kWh in very roughly 2.5 years of idle. In 10 years of being on idle, the electricity cost would be 1 EUR, or so...

Multiplied by 10,000,000 users = no icecaps, dead polar bears etc.

I use a power strip which has speakers etc. plugged in. One switch to flick. Not a lot of effort.

Re: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

Well sure, power stripe is good thing because of many reasons, not just ecology. I meant, SW solution, scripts and so on.

Concerning ecology. There is also question how much energy power stripe saves during its life and how much energy is needed to produce it, transport it and recycle it...

I have the RME ADI-2 DAC FS. I was googling and someone said they used a meter to read and it said theirs was pulling 12 watts even on standby. That could be wrong, I didn't measure it. If its only .5 watts that isn't too bad but still having to press the power button everytime I turn my PC on is meh. I will look into the midi commands someone mentioned in this thread. Put the turn on midi command in my startup folder.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, I will look into MIDI commands. I actually messed with MIDI stuff in the late 1990s but obviously that is going to be very outdated.

Taken directly from the ADI-2 DAC page:

"Standby power consumption: 120 mW (10 mA)"

https://rme-audio.de/adi-2-dac.html

That isn't nearly as high as 12 watts no

Re: Is there a way to shut my RME ADI-2 off when my PC shuts off?

So if anyone else is wanting to do this I just ended up ordering this master/slave powerstip off of amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/ECG-7MVR-Energy- … 1W?ie=UTF8

I leave the RME ADI-2 on all the time, have my PC plugged into the control socket, and the RME plugged into the switched outlets. When I turn my PC off the RME shuts off, and when I turn it back on the RME turns on and its in a usable state not on standby.
