Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Version 2.0.1 (08.09.2024)
This is the first official release of ControlPilot version 2!

Many things have been fixed and improved, and there are new features:

- A new Overlay layout option: Flat. It is a perfect fit for the upper right corner of Pro Tools Edit window - and a cool new design for everyone else.
- New: Extended Volume Focus: Can follow mute/un-mute/dim.
- New: Extended Volume Focus: Select a Volume Focus Base channel (Main/Phones 1-4), this is the channel the display returns to after timeout.
- New: Device selection for multi-interface .
- New: 3 different Channel Assignment strategies (Automatic from Device settings, Automatic from OSC names, Manual).
- New: Shortcut "Flip width on selected Playback channel".
- New: Added HUI protocol to receive transport states from DAW. (Pro Tools 2024.3 has dropped M-Audio protocol support).
- New: In ControlPilot 1, it was recommended to keep TotalMix OSC controller's bank size at 8. ControlPilot can now handle 24 channels at once without noticeable performance drop.
- New: Adjustable HUD Overlay background color.
- New: Shortcuts: Added an option to filter by assigned keyboard shortcuts. This makes it easier to look up the shortcuts that are in use.
- New: To exit Overlay setup mode, use the _Escape_ key.
- New: With the new setting in TotalMix 1.96+ "Save changes regularly (1 min)" selected, ControlPilot can now get updated settings that are not communicated via OSC. As a starter, the manual 'Refresh' Button will not need to restart TM if it has the new setting selected.

There are 2 important changes:

- The required minimum macOS version is macOS 12 (Monterey).
- TotalMix 1.96 introduced changes to OSC messaging, which means ControlPilot 1 does not run with TotalMix 1.96 and higher.

ControlPilot version 2 is free for all owners of version 1.

Check the ControlPilot website for more information.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

It would be nice to be able to change the text color of the HUD (to white), if one prefers to have the background color be dark/black. :-)

This had been on my list for a while. I did it now. Download the newest beta from inside the app to test it if you like.
I made it 2 separate settings, one for text, another for the mini buttons, you can toggle each between black or white.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Version 2.1.0 (27.11.2024)

- New: Added German localization: Other languages may follow. The manual is not yet translated.
- For german users: If you prefer using ControlPilot in English, you can easily switch off german localization:
    - Go to macOS Systemeinstellungen > Allgemein > Sprache & Region, click the (+) Plus-sign under the box "Apps, Spracheinstellungen für die folgenden Apps anpassen" and add ControlPilot to the list

- Enhanced & localized Accessibility for users relying on VoiceOver.
- New: Separate options for Volume Focus Mute & Un-Mute
- New: Added 2 checkboxes in HUD Setup to toggle the HUD text color and HUD mini-button outline color between black and white. (@jpoulsen)
- other changes, see Release Notes.

Enjoy!

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Happy to report,  as with everything else that was working just fine in MacOS 15.3 beta..  smooth sailing.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Awesome little app!

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Finally!

I’ve been looking for an app like this for years.
Bought already Static Z Sound Control, menuBUS, and Soundsource 4/5 but something like ControlPilot is all I ever wanted.

With the other apps which are great for general use, there is a small latency added to the signal (you can disable the DAW in Soundsource 5 for zero latency but then you can’t have keyboard volume control for the DAW)
Also, with other apps, when there is a volume change, the levels meters in DigiCheck are changing accordingly so you have to set the volume to zero for an accurate reading.

ControlPilot is snappy, and works great with the new TotalMix 2.0
Instant buy for me.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Yes, it’s an absolute dream.
Especially when used in conjunction with ARC USB.
The auto mutes are super handy when using Quickpunch in ProTools and there are lots of other little hamdy tricks when using Control Pilot.

BTW, you know that in Digicheck, you can use Playback channels for metering these days. It doesn’t have to be an actual out put for metering.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

I’m sure it’s very helpful to get this visual feedback for ARC users.
Using the Mac’s keyboard is such a long time habit for me that even when I had monitor controllers in an arm's reach, I kept using the keyboard for volume changes.

I am using playback channels 1-2 in DigiCheck, but still, the other apps I mentioned are changing the signal of every channel in TotalMix including playback channels, while ControlPilot is changing just the main output’s fader of TotalMix.

If you play a song on iTunes for example, the sound goes to iTunes first and then to the audio interface, and if you use any software (other than ControlPilot) for volume control with Apple keyboard, the sound goes from iTunes to Soundsource for example and only then to the audio interface, so when I hit the mute key on my keyboard with Soundsource, you don’t see anything on RME meters.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Please, please, please make this for Windows!!!

I desperately need this for my HDSPe MADI FX and ARC.

Re: controlPilot - ControlRoom HUD Display, Shortcuts & Automation

Heya! I'm using v2.1.0 on macOS 15.5. It seems like I'm experiencing a bug where the HUD doesn't hide itself after 2.5 seconds. However, when I restart the app it behaves like expected for a few times and after that just stays visible. Any thoughts? When I hover my mouse over the HUD it hides, so there's nothing wrong there.

My advice would be to try the latest beta update, you can get it from the app‘s menu.
Otherwise, just contact me directly, there’s always a solution ;-)
