Topic: Dropouts With Digiface USB

Hi, am new to RME and this Forum. I hope someone can help me.

A week ago, I bought a used Digiface USB and was extrem hyped to test it. But sadly I had big troubles getting it to work correctly and sadly I could not fix it at all.
I had a lot of Interfaces before, so actually it should not be a big thing for me to set this one up the right way...

So, I first installt the drivers, set the clock source to internal, cause I tested it without any digital converters, just used the headphone jack. started my daw and realised these problems I described. then I switched cables, uninstalled the software reinstalled it a few times.

Then it got weired. Til this time i had not set the WDM devices. So I did and suddenly It worked like a charm! I thought, that maybe I got these dropouts because of not using the Interface simultaneously in Windows and Ableton. But today I have the same problems again and this time I can not solve it. Maybe it was fortuity that it worked after I changed WDM settings...

to sum it up, the problem is, that my Digiface performs really bad. I have lot of dropouts even in small sessions. It is so bad, that I would say it is impossible to work with it.

Does someone have an Idea what to do next?

No. It's your system performs bad with the Digiface. It looks like it cannot handle all the Digiface's channels. What about DPC latency test? By the way, you did not describe your system's configuration.

Re: Dropouts With Digiface USB

My system (it's a laptop):
Windows 10 22H2 64-bit
AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics 3.30 GHz

BTW I have the same issue connecting the Digiface to another PC where I run 24 channels without any issues with other Interfaces. so I don't think it's a generaly problem of my ''weak system''.

So maybe it's broken? or is there something I can do to make it work?

Re: Dropouts With Digiface USB

As a test set it to the highest asio buffer size. If that works you know for sure the device is ok.

Also check the settings app for usb errors,

Re: Dropouts With Digiface USB

I think I found a solution to your problem here.
In short: The Digiface is not compatible with certain USB chipsets.
You can download the USB Tree Viewer to see to which USB chipset your device is connected and then compare to the compatible USB 3 controllers from the manual.

Current Digiface USB 3 Compatibility Information
 Fully compatible to Intel's USB 3 implementation which - on current Windows and Mac computers - is part of the chipset. USB 3 sockets that are connected via an internal cable (not directly soldered onto the motherboard) can cause transmission errors (these are shown in the Settings dialog).
 Fully compatible to AMD's USB 3 implementation. USB 3 sockets that are connected via an internal cable (not directly soldered onto the motherboard) can cause transmission errors (shown in the Settings dialog).
 Compatible to NEC / Renesas USB 3. Real-world performance and error-free operation depend on the firmware version, driver version and the PCB layout of the respective exten-sion card/motherboard.
 Fully compatible to Fresco USB 3 chip.
 Fully compatible to Via VL912, very often used in USB 3 hubs
 ASMedia - not compatible
 Etron EJ168A - not compatible
 Texas TUSB7340 - not compatible
 Via VL800/805 - not compatible

Re: Dropouts With Digiface USB

I would do two things:
1) Run LatencyMonitor to check computer behaviour. As already has been suggested.
2) Try different USB sockets. The best is one that is the only one on USB controller. Also other HW plugged to other USB sockets may influence things, if they are connected to the same USB controller.

Sidenote DF USB has 66 I/O channels. 2 x 4 x 8 digital ones and 2 for phones.

I have DF USB and use it on PC with AMD 5800G and it runs flawlesly on my Win10.
