Topic: Madiface Pro: How to clock to multiple hardware converters?

Hello,

I've been successfully using the following set up with a Madiface Pro to run into my PC:

Orion 32 (1st gen)
Two Audient ASP800s into the Orion via adat.
resulting in 48 channels running into the Madiface Pro through Madi, then into my PC via USB.

I just bought a Ferrofish Pulse 16 Mx, planning to max out the 64 channels of Madi.
However, I just realized that the Madiface does not have a BNC connector for Word clock I/O.

How do I successfully clock the Orion, Ferrofish and Madiface Pro together?

Re: Madiface Pro: How to clock to multiple hardware converters?

The sync between Madiface and Orion goes over Madi optical (it has to be optical because the MadifacePro has optical only).

The sync between the two Audients and the Orion goes over Adat optical .

The Ferrofish has the Madi-option onboard, right ? Otherwise you can't connect it.
It has to be connected over Madi daisy-chain.
The Madi cable connector housing can be opened with a small screwdriver then the In and Out cable are separated for connecting a daisy-chain.
The sync is normal over Madi optical.

I would try to make the MadifacePro clock-mode internal and the Orion and the Ferrofish clock-mode external Madi optical.
The two Audient has to be clock-mode external optical Adat.

To max out the 64 Madi channels you can hook up another two Ferrofish 16 or an RME M32AD.

Re: Madiface Pro: How to clock to multiple hardware converters?

Thanks for the response. I think I have it but would love some verification.
Yes, the Ferrofish has the Madi onboard.

To clarify:
Madi optical daisy chain: out of Madiface Pro into Orion, out of Orion into Ferrofish, out of Ferrofish, back into Madiface Pro?

Then Madiface Pro clock-mode internal/master
Orion external/slave
Ferrofish external/slave

Two Audients via adat into Orion optical, clocked external/slave (which adds 16 channels through the Orion, then out the Orion totaling 48 channels of the madi [currently hooked up this way])

No additional clocking hookups.

One more question,
The Ferrofish has a delay compensation function for clocking.
Should I bother with it?
"To compensate this delay you have to tell the PULSE16 which order it is inside the MADI chain:• Single: only one unit connected.• 1 of 4: first device in the MADI chain• 2 of 4: second device in the MADI chain• 3 of 4: third device in the MADI chain• 4 of 4: fourth device in the MADI chain"

Yes all correct

You are right, only one additional Ferrofish is possible not two.

Only two Madi devices in a daisy chain, I would not bother but you can set it correctly as this is a feature of your device, make it second 2of4
