Topic: Optimising Fiber Optic Links for UFX+ in Live Theater - LC/SC Problem

Hello,

I recently purchased a "50 m OM4 LWC Fibre Optic Cable Armoured LC to LC 50/125um" for my UFX+ https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0D736PMLD?ref … e&th=1.  This was my first time buying an optic cable, and I didn’t realize I had bought the wrong one. The price and the fact that it’s an armoured cable made me choose this option.

I’m now considering two solutions:

1- Buy four LC female to SC male adapters: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B … F&th=1
€64.99 Armoured LC cable + €60 four adapters = 124.99
2- Return the cable and instead purchase this one from Thomann: https://www.thomann.de/de/pro_snake_lwl … m4_50m.htm
€79

Which cable would be more reliable?

I’m performing a concert in a theater in South America, and bringing two 50 m coaxial cables is not an option due to weight limitations. I need to connect a UFX+ with external preamps on stage to another UFX+ at FOH. We have limited time for soundcheck, and this setup allows us to replicate exactly what we use in our rehearsal space.

I found there much more options for LC cables than SC online, so using this kind of adapters might be a good idea. Please let me know your experience.

you don't need two cables, one cables transfer input and output channels, and this 50m cable from Thomann looks god and the weight is very low. Thats not metal.

The adapters also looks good so it is a cheap lightweight solution.

Thanks for the quick response. I know that just one duplex optical cable is sufficient.
What I’m unsure about is whether this type of optical cable is rugged enough to prevent failure if someone steps on it.
Do you have experience with using optic cable in a stage setup?

I did use in private homerecording area.
It is not made for hard stage use. it is for installation behind the stage.
If it is carefully set it will work fine.

If someone step onto the cable it is still working, if you want real army rugged stuff look at Huber + Suhner manufacturer.

So, I am looking for the BNC option now and researching about redundancy, a couple of 50m meter cables would be around 5 kilos.

Are BNC more adequate for stage and touring applications?

This cable should work for MADI right?
