Topic: Parallels Desktop 20 strikes back - RME Driver Problem with Windows 11

Hi,
Just tried to install the latest madiface driver for Windows 11 on my MacBook Pro M4 Pro using Parallels Desktop 20.
After running rmeinstaller I get an error message that the file VCRUNTIME140_1.dll couldn‘t be found.

BTW: Before I tried to install the RME driver under VMWare Fusion where the installation of the driver worked.
However, after connecting my ADI-2 Pro FSR BE I either get a crackling noise while playing music or Windows 11 hangs.

Any idea how to fix the RME Windows 11 driver problems?

Just installed the previous version of the RME driver (09842) without any issues under Win11 using Parallels…

Re: Parallels Desktop 20 strikes back - RME Driver Problem with Windows 11

Just need to install the  Visual C++ Runtime https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

BUT, with my tests with Parallels I could not use the MADIface driver with an UFX3. I got USB Fifo errors. The Fireface USB driver works fine in Parallels.

The drivers differ in that the MADIface driver uses isochronous transfers and the Fireface driver uses interrupt transfers.
Perhaps the isochronous transfers do not work so well in the USB emulation of the virtual machine.

The 'previous' version was 0.9845. Apart from that Parallels seems to have issues with the isochronous data transmission of the MADIface series driver - that is not our issue and can not be fixed from our side. Nor is such a setup supported by us in any way.

Re: Parallels Desktop 20 strikes back - RME Driver Problem with Windows 11

Just installed the Visual C++ Runtime and was able to install now the latest MADIface x64 / Arm 64 bit driver for Windows 11.
After connecting the ADI-2 Pro FSR BE to the MacBook the Parallels Desktop 20 freezes completely!
Win 11 died - I could not even start the task manager and had to stop Parallels!
Due to the serious impact of the MADIface driver Parallels escalated it immediately to R&D for further debugging!

BTW: Under VMware Fusion this driver didn't work as well.
Of course, it's the fault of these "exotic" companies such as Parallels and Broadcom...

It's not their "fault" and these companies are not "exotic" in any way. They offer proven enterprise-grade products (I'm not talking about what happened to VMware's customer relations after the Broadcom takeover).

RME does not and is not obliged to provide any support for virtualized environments, neither you can demand it from hypervisor vendors.

Virtualization is a complex field where interoperability depends on lots of factors, in our case including the USB implementation (and whether it uses passthrough, paravirtualization, host adapter emulation, etc.) Good for Parallels that they show some goodwill about it, and it shows that this vendor is committed to supporting its product, but you should not take it for granted, and should not blame anyone if it does not work out in the end.
