Topic: DURec FAT32 Partitions and USB 90 Degree Extension Cable

I recently bought a UFX III and am mostly delighted smile

I am just learning about DURec and managed to correctly format a 960GB SSD and 256GB SanDisk microSD media with FAT32 - after some struggle, using Easus Partition Manager - as that functionality eluded me in Windows 10.

Is there any advantage to formatting multiple FAT32 partitions?

Would that speed up DURec scanning the media when you first plug it in?

The other question I have is in regards to compatible 90 Degree USB extension Cables:

Are there any that are compatible with the DURec USB port?

I tried this model from Amazon but was unsuccessful: GOOOA 90 Degree USB 3.0 Extension Data Cable - USB Up & Down Angle Cable - Type A Male to Female - 2 Pack (Black)

The user manual would mention it if there would be known advantage.
I guess the smaller the partition is, the less recording time you have available, I would make one partition as big as possible.

The most important factor for speed is the USB stick model itself.
I remember Sandisk Extreme was recommended by RME as it is super fast in writing and reading.

What speed? The DURec USB port is a USB2 port.

The reason for using USB3 sticks is that some (not all) of them can continuously write data without any pause. This is urgently needed as the recording interface itself has no memory to buffer audio data in case the USB stick's controller pauses I/O.

This is critical, if all DURec channels are activated on devices like UFX III with up to ~80 DURec channels.

Check the thread about pen disks for DURec "USB recording media recommendation for UFX - pen drives etc."

Thanks for the media thread recommendation ramses - I had not seen that. Will check it out.

The media I've used so far has been successful with no errors up to 80 channels. But, admittedly I have not tried a long recording test yet . .

Re: DURec FAT32 Partitions and USB 90 Degree Extension Cable

Can anyone advise on a 90 Degree Angle USB 3.0 Extension Data Cable that might work?

Looking at the other thread it seems as if the DURec port is actually USB 2

In which case I'm slightly mystified why the short right-angle USB extender cable I purchased does not work on the UFX III. It works on various computers I tried. Could it be something to do with (lack of?) power delivery?

You've already made good choices with SD and SSD, often more reliable than pen drives. Stick to those...
I don't usually record more than 10 channels, but my old 32GB SD card in a card reader that cost €5 hasn't failed me yet as a backup in an original UFX...

Thank you Daniel and ramses - I will give that recommendation a try smile
