Topic: My Fireface 400 is no longer recognized

I am using MacOS 10.6.1 on a MacPro 2x2,8 GHz Quad-Core Inte Xeon, 6 Gbyte RAM, plenty of space on the three internal harddrives, LogicPro 9.02. Until now, the Fireface 400 was recognized and the Fireface Mixer and Fireface Settings files were automatically loaded when I powered up the Mac with the Fireface 400 connected and turned on.

Now, however, my Mac (and LogicPro9) is no longer able to see the Fireface 400. I deleted all prefs files and installed the latest driver as well as the FireFace flash updater, but this didn't help. I am also not able to load the Fireface Mixer and Fireface Settings files (if I doubleclick on them, they blink but do not open).

What is wrong here? Is MacOS 10.6.1 now compatible?

Any help is welcome!

Am I the only user with this problem? RME staff, are you reading this? Oh well, it's Saturday and you are probably at home thinking about nice things smile

Re: My Fireface 400 is no longer recognized

Remove any other FW devices from the computer. Trash ALL related files as per this post: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4602

Then restart, empty trash, and run the installer again. If it still doesn't work, try a different computer. On a Windows computer, you should get a "Add New Hardware Wizard" popup. If not, the unit probably needs service.

Well, I have done what you suggested. Two times, in fact. No result. My Mac is no longer able to make contact with the Fireface 400. Now I need the RME Audio technicians to help me!

Yes, try it on a different computer. If no recognition, it may need service.

I have now connected the Firefiace 400 to a different Mac (at my musical instruments store), and it plays and behaves like it should, with no errors.

This means that the problem is on my Mac. Since I have deleted all the prefs and program files and installed the latest driver (which should be compatible with OS 10.6.1) again, I can't see what more I can do.

Any suggestions? RME staff?

Then it may be that the FW port of your Mac is defective.

Re: My Fireface 400 is no longer recognized

I'm having the exact same problem. One minute I was using Logic 9 with  sound, and the next it froze and now my fireface won't be recognized. The port is not defective. My harddrives and other firewire hardware works fine. I've done the deleting of the old drivers and reinstalling. Nothing has fixed.

Re: My Fireface 400 is no longer recognized

Figured out a workaround. After everything suggested above was attempted and failed. I then connected the fireface 400 to my pc and it was then recognized and reset. I then installed the drivers over the olds ones on the mac again, and restarted with both my pc and mac connected to the fireface 400 at the same time, and viola, it works again.
